Aryna Sabalenka vs Amanda Anisimova: Head-to-Head and recent form
Both finalists needed three sets to win their respective semi-finals.
Aryna Sabalenka had to come back from losing the opening set against Jessica Pegula to win the match 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, while Amanda Anisimova also had to fight back to beat a resurgent Naomi Osaka 6-7, 7-6, 6-3.
World no.1 and defending champion Aryna Sabalenka hadn’t dropped a set in the entire tournament until Jessica Pegula won their opener 6-4. Seemingly in control of the match, Sabalenka had led 4-2, but then lost four games in a row to surrender the lead and given her current history, possibly the match.
But rather than imploding again, Sabalenka kept her composure to fight back and book her place in her third Grand Slam final of 2025. Only at Wimbledon did the Belarusian fail to make the final.
Sabalenka’s consistent form is remarkable. However, she has a 20-18 record in finals, which does show a weakness in a player who possesses so much talent and physical dominance.
As well as beating Jessica Pegula for a second successive year at Flushing Meadows, Sabalenka has also defeated Rebeka Masarova, Polina Kudermetova, Leylah Fernandez, Cristina Bucsa and Marketa Vondrousova (walkover).
Only Pegula is yet to take a set off the champion this year.
As expected, Amanda Anisimova was involved in a titanic tussle with Naomi Osaka in their semi-final matchup. The opening two sets went to tie breaks, with Osaka taking the first 7-4, and Anisimova the second, 7-3.
In the deciding set, the 24-year-old American came out on top 6-3. The win means she has now reached successive Grand Slam finals, following her appearance in the final at Wimbledon less than two months ago.
What makes Anisimova’s performances in the US Open all the more impressive is how she has bounced back from her humiliating loss in the Wimbledon final, where she was defeated 6-0, 6-0 by Iga Świątek.
Anisimova didn’t have to wait long for her shot at redemption, as she had to face Świątek in the quarter-finals here at Flushing Meadows.
Rather than wilt under the pressure, Anisimova showed guts to defeat Świątek 6-4, 6-3 and immediately remove the monkey from her back.
Along with her quarter-final and semi-final wins over Świątek and Osaka, respectively, Anisimova has also beaten Jaqueline Cristian, Maya Jantchou, Laura Siegemund and Beatriz Haddad Maia on her way to the final.
In a further boost to Anisimova, she leads the head-to-head 6-3. This includes a 3-2 record in favour of the American at Grand Slams. However, on the flip side, four of Anisimova’s six wins came during or before 2022.
Furthermore, the Americans’ win over Sabalenka this year came on the grass of Wimbledon. This plays into the hands of Sabalenka backers as we already know that all three of the Belarusian’s Grand Slam wins have come on hard court surfaces in Melbourne and New York.
Aryna Sabalenka vs Amanda Anisimova betting predictions and tips
If the two women’s semi-finals were anything to go by, the final is set to be a blockbuster.
Both women have shown remarkable mental strength. Aryna Sabalenka showed us that she can avoid imploding and win big matches, while Amanda Anisimova seems to have already put her Wimbledon heartbreak behind her. Our 2025 US Open women’s final match tips follow:
Aryna Sabalenka to win
While neither result would greatly surprise us, we have to go for a win for the defending champion and the world no.1.
Aryna Sabalenka has demonstrated she has found a way to deal with things when the pressure is on and she needs to dig deep and pull a performance out of the bag.
Furthermore, all three of Sabalenka’s Grand Slams have come on hard court surfaces, and she simply is too good to keep getting to big finals and losing.
Back Aryna Sabalenka to beat Amanda Anisimova at 6/13 with SBK
Amanda Anisimova to win over 11.5 games
It is more than possible that this match will go to three sets. If you are certain that it will, then odds of 31/20 on Anisimova to win over 12.5 games is available from BetMGM.
However, we are going for over 11.5 game wins for the American. This is because it covers two options.
Even though we believe the match will go to three sets, we are going for the lower spread as it would not only cover a close three-set match, but also a 7-6, 7-6 defeat for Anisimova.
Back Amanda Anisimova to win over 11.5 games in the match at 17/20 with BetMGM
Aryna Sabalenka to win 2-1
Although Amanda Anisimova lost her only Grand Slam final to date 6-0, 6-0, we feel that she has demonstrated in the US Open that she has got that capitulation out of her system.
Furthermore, Aryna Sabalenka has also shown she is still a bit suspect in big games.
Even though she showed good fighting instincts to come from behind and beat Jessica Pegula in her semi-final, the betting favourite to win the tournament did lose four games in a row on her way to surrendering the first set.
This increases the chances of Anisimova winning one set and makes a wager on a 2-1 scoreline to Sabalenka look like a good value bet.
Back Aryna Sabalenka to win 2-1 in sets at 11/4 with Betfred
