All About Mel Owens’ Commitment Ring to [Spoiler] on ‘The Golden Bachelor’

Mel Owens gave Peg Munson a stunning commitment ring on The Golden Bachelor.

During the show’s finale, which aired on Wednesday, November 12, Mel, 66, decided not to propose to Peg, 62, but “committed” to her with a rock of a ring instead.

Engagement ring designer Neil Lane opened up to People about the sparkler, sharing that the piece featured over 30 diamonds, totaling a “substantial” 3.5 carats.

“It’s very different working with the Golden Bachelor or the Golden Bachelorette, because in general I work with younger people who have never taken this journey before,” Lane explained. “I’m dealing with couples, people who have had lives and rings before. So, I try to combine that magic with a lot of respect for the lives that they had before.”

To create a perfect ring for the couple, Lane designed a three-stone ring with the center stone featuring a cushion-cut to represent “their happiness, unity and shared love.”

The two side triangles represent the duo individually. “It’s symbolic for me, the way I create these rings to try to find a meaning for the relationship that I’m working with,” Lane gushed of the jewelry.

The ring, which is set in an 18K gold band, was adorned with smaller diamonds surrounding the stones.

During the episode, Mel told Peg, “This was our time. I trusted you, you trusted me and you told me you had confidence in me that I’d make the right choice and here you are. I have something for you.” He then pulled out the ring and told her the diamonds represent their “commitment” to each other.

Peg accepted the piece and told Mel that she agreed with his words and called him the “perfect” man for her.

“You know what’s nice about being in your 60s and going through life, you get to write your own love story — and we’re on the same page,” Peg told host Jesse Palmer. “That’s a love story the way that we get to do it, and to continue to grow our love, continue to spend time with our families, and that’s the nice part about being in our 60s in your golden years is being able to do what you want to with that connection you have with someone.”

Mel, for his part, agreed, saying, “I saw our love grow all the way through, and it’s special when it’s the right person. We’ve spent some time together and we had moments together. We had some time, and one thing that I love about her is the energy and the get-up-and-go [attitude].”
