Amorim on facing Leeds, rivalries and January

Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim has been speaking to the media before Sunday's Premier League game against Leeds United at Elland Road (kick-off 12:30 GMT).

Here are the key lines from his news conference:

  • On team news, Amorim said there are "no different issues" for their trip to Leeds. He added: "I don't think anyone is going to recover but we'll see."
  • Amorim said he has "heard it's a big rivalry" with Leeds and, while admitting it is "one more game", he knows it means a lot to the fans.
  • Amorim said the game against Leeds will be in a "hostile environment" but "they need to be ready".
  • The Manchester United boss said it is difficult to compare this to the Sporting-Benfica rivalry he has experienced: "It's different. I never experienced this one. Different environment, different culture, but the noise is going to be big. It's hard to compare different cultures and different histories."
  • Amorim believes they "should have more points", adding: "I think we are playing better, when we have the full squad we are clearly attacking better, we're not good enough in the details."
  • On January, he said: "The transfer window is not going to change. We have no conversation to have any change in the squad. There is a process, there is an idea - that is going to continue. We are near places of the Champions League but we are also near eight teams behind us."
  • Asked whether anyone has knocked on his door asking to leave the club, he added: "No, none of them. I don't expect them to come to me to ask [to leave]."
  • He was also asked about playing youth and said: "We look to everything, but they need to be prepared. You can see the squad - it's impossible to stretch the players we don't have. I try to put a team ready to cope with that and read the game to help them."
