Armenia v Republic of Ireland predictions

The Republic of Ireland head to Armenia for their second World Cup qualifier having snatched a 93rd minute equaliser at home against Hungary having been 2-0 down at half time in their opening clash of the campaign.

Heimir Hallgrimsson has been tasked with the challenge of leading the Irish to their first World Cup appearance in 24 years having failed to qualify for each of the last five editions of the competition.

The Boys in Green would have been hoping to pick up three points in Dublin against the Hungarians, who are probably their main threat to a second placed finish behind Nations League champions Portugal, which would secure a place in the play-offs for a trip to North America next summer.

Ireland make the trip to Armenia on Tuesday evening looking for their first win of the season, looking to end a run of three consecutive draws, but are unbeaten in the calendar year since their 5-0 defeat against England at Wembley in their final outing of 2024.

With their next qualifier coming against Portugal in Lisbon next month, it adds extra importance for the Republic of Ireland to return home from Yerevan with all three points.

Armenia fell to a heavy 5-0 defeat at home against Portugal in their opening World Cup qualifier on Saturdya evening, which leaves them with just one win in all competitions in the last year, and four defeats in their five matches in 2025.

Eghishe Melikyan will be taking charge of his second match since being announced as the new manager of his native country last month, and will see Tuesday’s game as a chance to stamp his mark on the side following heavy defeat against Portugal on Saturday.

Armenia have never qualified for a major tournament following their independence from the Soviet Union but will see Tuesday’s game as perhaps their best chance of securing a win throughout the qualifying campaign and will no doubt make it a tough game for their visitors.

It’s not long since the two sides last met, having been drawn in the same Nations League B group in 2022, in which the Irish were beaten 1-0 in Yerevan in June of that year before winning 3-2 in Dublin courtesy of a 91st minute Robbie Brady penalty.

Armenia no doubt have the capability to make Tuesday’s clash a difficult one for the Irish, but the visitors will still expect to return home with all three points, a 2-1 away win seeming most likely.

Armenia v Republic of Ireland betting tips

Ferguson refound scoring touch

Roma striker Evan Ferguson scored his fifth goal for the Republic of Ireland in their draw with Hungary in Dublin on Saturday night and is likely to be involved from the outset once again in Yerevan on Tuesday.

The 20-year-old has been leading the line for Roma since his loan move from Brighton in the summer, and Saturday’s goal may well have kickstarted his goal scoring form once again after a quiet season last time out.

Ireland to return home with all three points

Victory in Yerevan is critically if Hallgrimsson’s side wish to be taken seriously as a contender for a place in the play-offs, particularly with a trip to Lisbon up next for the Boys in Green, after failing to win at home against Hungary on Saturday.
