'Best Medicine' Has Big 'Reveal' When Mark Notices Martin, Louisa's Romance
Best Medicine‘s love triangle is building up to a big reveal when Mark finally notices Martin and Louisa’s growing romance.
“The fun part of playing a character like Mark is that he is unabashedly earnest. It allows you a couple of blind spots so that you can keep playing straight,” Segarra, 39, explained during an exclusive interview with Us Weekly. “One of the big blind spots that I think he has in this season is that he’s not seeing the tension play out between Doc and Louisa.”
Season 1 will address the fictional couple’s connection.
“When the reveal does eventually come that they are sparking a little romance, I think that it hits him like a ton of bricks,” Segarra noted. “That’s been really fun to play because throughout the journey, you’re seeing Mark fall in love with his new best friend: Dr Martin Best.”

He continued: “So it helps when he falls off that cliff at the very end and we had a really good time shooting that day.”
Best Medicine follows a doctor who “moves from the city of Boston, Massachusetts, to a small practice in the East Coast fishing village where he vacationed as a child,” according to the official synopsis.
Josh Charles plays Dr. Martin Best, while Segarra, Abigail Spencer, Cree Cicchino, Annie Potts, Didi Conn, Clea Lewis, Stephen Spinella, Jason Veasey, Cindy De La Cru, John DiMaggio, Carter Shimp and dog cast member Wattson complete the rest of the cast.

“They have found a way to put Mark in a lot of crazy situations — and that’s what I’m having the most fun with whenever I would read a script and I realized, ‘Oh, they got Mark in this zany thing.’ That’s my jam,” Segarra shared. “You’re going to see a lot of very fun quirky events happen in Port Wenn where we’ve got a lot of traditions that we’re gonna introduce the watchers to. I’m excited to get involved in some hijinks.”
Segarra recalled having a blast getting to bring Mark — and Port Wenn — to life.
“You’re going to see him cry, see him laugh, see him get very badly hurt and you’re going to see him try to take care of other people,” he hinted. “They get very badly hurt. You’ll see him go on to do some detective work with Dr. Best. I’m excited for everyone to go on the journey with us.”

Looking ahead, viewers will learn more about fan-favorite Sheriff Mark.
“He loves his job. I think that he’s very good at his job. But I will also say that he has a little bit too much fun at his job,” he shared. “He doesn’t even have a gun so I don’t think that Port Wenn is necessarily the toughest, which is why he loves it. He just gets to have a little bit more fun. He gets some cats out of the trees and I don’t think there are too many noise disturbances. But he’s a fixture in the town and you will see him get a little down and dirty this season. You’ll see him really click into his element that he has been preparing for his whole life.”
Mark’s love life will play a large role in the first season. “I think Mark is looking in the mirror every morning telling himself, ‘Let’s go, hot guy summer,'” Segarra quipped. “There’s a very fun reveal where I think all the available women in town are lining up [to date him]. I believe he is trying his best to get over the love of his life.”
Best Medicine airs Tuesdays on Fox at 8 p.m. ET.
