Brighton Women vs Aston Villa Women predictions

There was not much to choose between Brighton & Hove Albion and Aston Villa in the Women’s Super League last season.

Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester United and Manchester City finished in the top four, after which there was a big gap with the rest of the division.

Brighton were the best of the rest in fifth place on 28 points, while Aston Villa finished one spot and three points below the Seagulls.

The meetings between the two were pretty equal as well. Brighton won their home game 4-2 in October, with Villa enacting revenge via a 3-1 victory on the final weekend of the campaign.

If anyone is going to disrupt the top four in the Women’s Super League this term, it is likely to be one of this pair. However, it will not be easy for either team to make up the gap, so fifth place might be the height of their realistic ambitions.

Dario Vidosic did a fine job in charge of Brighton last season and he will aim to ensure they are competitive again in 2025/26.

It has been a busy summer at Broadfield Stadium, the home of Crawley Town’s men’s side as well as Brighton’s women (and the unrecognised Sealand national team).

Albion have seen 10 first-team players depart, including the England international Nikita Parris, Guro Bergsvand, Vicky Losada and Pauline Bremer. But Michelle Agyemang has returned for another season on loan from Arsenal, this time joined by her Gunners team-mate Rosa Kafaji.

Brighton have also struck permanent deals for Chiamaka Nnadozie, Moeka Minami, Manuela Vanegas, Carla Camacho and Maelys Mpome. It is the sort of eclectic bunch of additions to which followers of the club’s men’s team have grown accustomed.

Aston Villa may have finished sixth last time out, but it was not the smoothest of seasons. Villa won their final five games to shoot up the standings, but before that a run of six defeats on the trot had left them in the relegation battle.

It took Natalia Arroyo a while to get her ideas across, but Villa’s strong end to the campaign has raised hopes for 2025/26.

Danielle Turner, Jordan Nobbs and Rachel Corsie have moved on, the latter hanging up her boots, but Villa have brought in Lynn Wilms, Ellie Roebuck, Jill Baijings, Lucia Kendall, Oceane Deslandes and Maya Hijikata.

Brighton Women vs Aston Villa Women betting tips

Brighton host Aston Villa on the opening weekend of the 2025/26 Women’s Super League season.

Brighton can edge it

Brighton and Aston Villa had contrasting starts to last season. Whereas the Seagulls hit the ground running, Villa took a while to get going.

There is a good chance that both teams will need a few weeks to hit top form amid a significant turnover of players over the summer.

As far as Sunday is concerned, home advantage gives Brighton a slight edge. Vidosic has given the team a clear identity and Brighton’s possession-based game will ask questions of Villa.

Arroyo has worked to bring the average age of her squad down over the summer. That is a smart long-term decision, but there are likely to be one or two teething problems along the way for Villa.

Back three goals at most

The Women’s Super League has consistently been higher-scoring than the Premier League.

Last season saw an average of 3.21 goals per game in the women’s top flight, compared to 2.93 every 90 minutes in the men’s.

Brighton and Aston Villa’s matches had the exact same number of goals: 76 in 22 games, so 3.45 per fixture.

Both head-to-head clashes between this duo featured more than 3.5 goals, but things could be different on Sunday as Brighton and Villa seek to find their rhythm on matchday one.

Agyemang to build on fine summer

Michelle Agyemang had a fantastic summer. The breakout star of Euro 2025, she helped England win the trophy in Switzerland.

After being voted as Young Player of the Tournament, some wondered whether Agyemang would be able to force her way into the Arsenal team.

Instead, the Gunners have opted to loan her out to Brighton for a second season on the bounce.

Agyemang only scored three league goals last term, so she will be looking to significantly improve on that tally. The teenage starlet can get the ball rolling on Sunday.
