Browns head coach search: Team adds grandson of an NFL legend to interview request list

The Cleveland Browns head coach search is, seemingly, nowhere near being over. The NFL rules prohibit in-person interviews with any coach employed by any team, besides their own, until Monday, January 19th. Second in-person interviews cannot be completed until a week later. Unemployed coaches can interview immediately, including Mike McDaniel.

The Browns have put in interview requests and interviewed a wide swath of candidates, including a number of very young coaches like Jacksonville Jaguars OC Grant Udinski and Los Angeles Rams passing game coordinator Nate Scheelhaase.

Given the prolonged interview schedule the NFL has set out, getting a variety of candidates in for interviews makes a lot of sense. According to Mary Kay Cabot, that includes Rams DC Chris Shula:

Shula is in his ninth season with Los Angeles and his second as their defensive coordinator. Prior to his time with the Rams, Shula spent a season at John Carroll University and three years at Indiana University. His first coaching experience came at Ball State in 2010 after he played linebacker at Miami of Ohio from 2004 to 2008.

Shula is the son of David Shula, former head coach of the Cincinnati Bengals from 1992-96, and the grandson of Hall of Fame Head Coach Don Shula.
