Buffalo Bills v Baltimore Ravens predictions

All attention on Sunday night’s late game will be on the respective quarter backs of each team as the MVPs of each of the last two seasons, Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen, go head to head in a Week 1 game touted by many to go on to be the AFC Championship match.

For Allen and the Bills, this season also marks what will likely be their final one playing their home games at Highmark Stadium, Buffalo’s home for 52 years, before making the move the New Highmark Stadium which is expected to be ready for the start of next season.

Sean McDermott’s side head into the new season looking to win the AFC East division for a sixth consecutive campaign, which would extend the franchise record, and will be looking to build on their 13-4 season last time out which saw them earn the number two seed in the AFC playoffs.

The Bills reached the AFC Championship game last season after a narrow win over the Ravens in the divisional round but are still looking for their elusive first ever Super Bowl win, holding the joint-record for most Super Bowl appearances without victory.

The Bills did only manage to go 1-2 in pre-season in preparation for Sunday night’s game, falling to surprise defeats at home against the New York Giants and being on the wrong end of a 38-0 thrashing against Chicago, before a narrow win at Tampa Bay a fortnight ago.

Meanwhile, the Ravens will be gunning for revenge following their play-off defeat at this stadium in most recent competitive game back in January.

John Harbaugh’s side will be looking to win the AFC North division for the third successive season, led by superstar quarterback Lamar Jackson, as the franchise hunt a third Super Bowl title, and their first since 2012, in what is their 30th season competing in the NFL.

Kicker Justin Tucker’s departure means there are no players surviving in the roster from their last Super Bowl victory, but Baltimore are currently priced as marginal favourites to lift this season’s Vince Lombardi Trophy and a statement win at Highmark would be the perfect start to an exciting season.

Baltimore have enjoyed a highly impressive pre-season campaign, going 3-0 with comfortable wins over Indianapolis at home and on the road against Dallas and Washington on the road, which will stand them in good stead for Sunday night’s season opener.

In what could well prove to be the AFC Championship decider later this season, both Super Bowl contenders will be desperate to kick their campaign off with a huge win to put the rest of the league on alert.

Buffalo have won each of their last 11 matches at home and have the extra emotional push of the game being their final opener at High Mark, at which reigning MVP Josh Allen will be determined to put on a show – I think the home side win this one narrowly, a 27-24 Bills win.

Buffalo Bills v Baltimore Ravens betting tips

Allen to star as Bills begin with statement win

Buffalo’s 11 match winning streak at Highmark Stadium could be under threat with the visit of the Super Bowl favourites, but the added emotion from team and fans for the beginning of the final season at their historic stadium could give the Bills the extra push they need to start their season with a huge win.

James Cook co-led the league in rushing touchdowns last season and will be hoping to start the new season how he left off, while reigning NFL MVP Josh Allen will be eager to continue his strong form and star in the standout clash of the opening game of the season.

  • Buffalo to win, over 50.5 points, James Cook touchdown, Josh Allen over 1.5 passing touchdowns at 6/1 with Paddy Power
