Chelsea Women have dominated the WSL, winning the last six seasons in succession.

In 2022/23 Man United went just two points off of the Blues with Arsenal often getting close to the mark, but never really threatening and it would be a surprise if Chelsea don’t forge on after going unbeaten all of last season.

Manchester City Women came 2nd by goal difference in the WSL last year so you’d have expected them to at least have challenged last season.

But instead they sat 17 points off of Chelsea and five points off of second placed Arsenal.

It shows how dominant the Blues were – only conceding 13 all season and keeping up an incredible unbeaten record.

These two last met in the Champions League Quarter Finals, where Chelsea came from 2-0 down in the first leg to win 3-2 and the overall knockout tie on aggregate with a dazzling first half performance.

Just a few days prior they also beat City in the Women’s League Cup Final 2-1.

Goalscorers galore

Chelsea not only won the League Cup and the WSL but also beat Man United 3-0 to win the FA Women’s Cup in May.

Sandy Baltimore netted a brace in another seemingly comfortable display from the Blues.

Aggie Beever-Jones continued to net important goals too and after a good run out for the Lionesses winning the Euros will likely come back into this season with even more goals.

Last season she netted nine in 22 appearances and should be favoured to score in most games she plays in.

So too can Khadija Shaw who scooped the WSL Golden Boot alongside Alessia Russo, both netting 12.

But Shaw did so in just 14 appearances and could make an impact in the opener too, if just for a reply/consolation.

You can’t also forget that City did win their first Champions League leg 2-0 against the Blues, so do have the potential to make it very difficult.

Similarly, Vivianne Miedema netted those two goals in that victory and the former Arsenal and Bayern Munich star is likely to help Man City even more this season.

She bagged seven goals from just 11 appearances last year and continues to show why she was regarded as the top player of Women’s football.
