The Denver Broncos will open their quest to reach Super Bowl LX this Saturday when they host the Buffalo Bills. Denver is looking to reach their ninth Super Bowl.

First, the team will need to fend off a Bills team that sees a major light at the end of the tunnel after defeating the Jacksonville Jaguars in the Wild Card round. They now sit in a playoff bracket that does not have Patrick Mahomes, Lamar Jackson or Joe Burrow playing in it and they are facing a Broncos team that may see as a weak No. 1 seed.

The Broncos will face the Bills in the playoffs for the third time in team history. Let's take a look at how those other two playoff games have gone, along with some other playoff notes.

Broncos vs. Bills postseason history

The Broncos and Bills have met just twice before in the playoffs, with one of those games taking place last season.

The first meeting came in January 1992 in the AFC Championship Game. That was during the Bills' run of making it to the Super Bowl four straight times, only to lose each one. In this game, Broncos kicker David Treadwell missed three field goals and John Elway had to leave the game in the fourth quarter due to a deep thigh bruise, giving way to Gary Kubiak, who almost pulled off the victory.

The Bills won 10-7.

Last season, the Broncos made the playoffs for the first time since winning Super Bowl 50, but as a No. 7 seed, had to go into Buffalo. Despite the Broncos putting the first seven points on the board, Josh Allen threw for 272 yards and two touchdowns and the Bills pounded the Broncos on the ground, rushing for 210 yards en route to a 31-7 victory.

Have the Broncos ever been eliminated by the same team two years in a row?

Yes.

The Broncos lost to the Indianapolis Colts in the Wild Card round following the 2003 season and then suffered the same fate following the 2004 season. Neither game was close.

Peyton Manning, in his pre-Broncos days, helped the Colts beat the Broncos 41-10 following the 2003 season and the very next year, in a game that was eerily similar to the one before, beat the Broncos 49-24.

The Broncos will have to hope they have made the necessary changes in order to avoid being beat up by the Bills for a second year in a row.

Broncos divisional record

The Broncos have a 10-6 all-time record in the divisional round of the playoffs. Their last divisional playoff game came after the 2015 regular season where they beat the Pittsburgh Steelers 23-16 in a game that could have gone either way.
