Does Xavier Worthy have a chance to play against the Eagles in Week 2?

It’s a Super Bowl LIX rematch.

The Philadelphia Eagles travel to Arrowhead in Week 2 to face the Kansas City Chiefs in a rematch of last season’s biggest game.

The last time these two teams met was in New Orleans for Super Bowl 59 where the Eagles pummeled the Chiefs 40-22, and denied Patrick Mahomes‘ quest for the NFL‘s first-ever three-peat.

Even the final score looked a lot closer than the actual game.

As bad as it was for the Chiefs, one of the few bright spots was rookie Xavier Worthy‘s performance.

Worthy finished the game with 8 receptions for 157 yards and two touchdowns. Granted, a good chunk of that came in garbage time when the game was already well out of reach.

However, the Chiefs might be without their second-year star wideout after he dislocated his shoulder in Week 1 against the Los Angeles Chargers in Brazil.

How long will Xavier Worthy be out?

The timetable for Worthy’s return is far more optimistic than initially feared.

Reid described Worthy’s status as “day-by-day” rather than “week-to-week” which is a great sign.

“So, as far as the injuries go, I know Xavier’s going to be the big question,” Reid told the media on Monday. “He’s rehabbing and working his shoulder, we’ll just see where it goes. Day-by-day here, see where we end up.”

Surgery was reportedly on the table, but it now looks like he will choose to play with a brace and wait to get surgery in the offseason.

The likelihood of him playing against the Eagles on Sunday remains extremely slim, but the odds are no longer zero.

With Rashee Rice serving his six-game suspension, the rest of Kansas City’s wide receiver depth looks like this: Hollywood Brown, JuJu Smith-Schuster, Jason Brownlee, Tyquan Thornton, and Nikko Remigio.

Rookie Jalen Royals has been battling knee tendinitis but hasn’t been ruled out for Sunday’s game.

How did Xavier Worthy get injured?

Worthy injured himself when he collided with teammate Travis Kelce on a third-down pass early in the first quarter.

He was helped to the locker room and never returned to the game.

Head coach Andy Reid called it a freak accident.

“Yeah. I mean, it was just one of those deals,” Reid said. “Sometimes that happens, you know that’s – anyways sometimes that happens with crossing routes, but you hope it doesn’t and (doesn’t) very often for sure.”
