‘Don’t normally tell people’ – Sean Dyche explains Celebs Go Dating appearance with Kerry Katona

It’s been a question on the minds of thousands of people for several weeks.

Why did Sean Dyche make a brief and totally unexpected appearance on an episode of TV show Celebs Go Dating?

Well, we finally have the answer as the former Everton and Burnley boss exclusively spilled all on talkSPORT’s Warm Up.

Dyche explains his appearance on Celebs Go Dating

“Well, what happened was… I don’t normally tell people stuff like this,” Dyche said.

“I went out with the Millwall lads, that’s the link. We went out for a catch-up, there was about nine of us. We stumbled into a restaurant – and we did stumble in, we were okay but we did stumble in – and there were all the cameras there. So I said, ‘Sorry lads, that’s the way it goes, that’s the way it goes.’ The lads were buzzing off it.

“But the producer comes over and says, ‘It’s Sean, isn’t it?’ I said, ‘Yeah’. He said, ‘Look, we’re doing Celebrities Go Dating. Would you mind just doing a little walk-on piece, it adds a little flavour to it.’

“I said, ‘Sure, what does it pay?’ So he pulled a face and I went, ‘No, it’s not for me, I’ ll give it to charity.’ So they said they’d give me double which is not a fortune, but still nice and a bit of a craic for the lads.

“But of course, I had to go on and make out as if I sort of know Kerry [Katona]. By the way, she’s lovely as well. Let’s make that clear. She takes a bit of stick but she’s lovely, very gracious, came around and said hello afterwards.

“They sort of just plonked me on it. So I did it, bit of a laugh with the lads.”

As people tuned into Kerry’s episode alongside Paolo Margaglione, who she is now officially dating, many people on social media were quick to react to Dyche’s unexpected cameo.

But what left Dyche with somewhat of a sour taste in his mouth was the fact no-one ever seemed to stop and think as to why he may have been there in the first place.

“People jump on it straight away, you start getting stick,” Dyche said.

Dyche was all too happy to appear on the show in the name of charity

“That’s the world now. It’s just like, ‘Slow your thinking down.’

“There must be someone out there who thought, ‘There must be a reason why he’s doing that.'”

As Dyche pointed out, the funds for his brief appearance went to Kidney Research, a charity which uses funding to research further into the prevention, treatment and management of kidney disease.

Dyche added: “I don’t normally mention stuff like that, but it gives listeners insight when they see something in the clickbait generation that it is.

“You end up taking a bit of heat for it. People go, ‘Why are you doing that?’ I go, ‘Woah, woah, woah, just slow yourself down.’

“When I tell them why, they go, ‘Oh, right.’ But it was all good.”

As Dyche waits for the right moment to return to management following his axing from Everton in January, another cameo on a TV show may be in the offing.

And if that transpires, just be sure to, as Dyche put it, ‘slow your thinking down’.

Because the 54-year-old probably has a good reason for being on our TV screens we’re just yet to find out about.
