Erin Bates' Diagnosis Has 'Changed Several Times' Amid Hospitalization

Erin Bates’ parents, Gil and Kelly Jo Bates, have shared an update on their daughter’s latest health complications amid her hospitalization.
“Thanks for praying for Erin these past 2.5 weeks. The days have been a blur with trips back and forth to FL, several surgeries with other children and another sweet grand baby to welcome,” read an Instagram Story shared Wednesday, September 10, on Gil and Kathy’s joint account. “We’ve hesitated to share updates since Erin’s diagnosis has changed several times.”
Erin, 34, has been hospitalized since late last month following complications from a UTI and kidney infection that developed into sepsis after welcoming her seventh child, son Henry. (According to the Cleveland Clinic, sepsis is a serious infection that can cause organ failure, tissue damage or even death.)
“She’d recover from one thing, just to experience yet another complication,” Gil, 60, and Kelly Jo, 58 wrote. “It’s puzzled the doctors who’ve done a significant amount of testing, so without an exact diagnosis and with her condition changing often, it’s been harder to share [updates].”

The pair further noted that they are “grateful for heartfelt messages sent” on Erin’s behalf during “these uncertain days.”
“We’ve had teary nights, late nights, happy nights and a whole of emotions,” they concluded. “Through it all, we’ve felt a deep gratitude for the love that has constantly surrounded us.”
Erin’s husband, Chad Paine, has also been sharing frequent updates on his wife’s health throughout her recovery.
“Yesterday, Erin was transferred to a new hospital where a team of doctors is working together to help her improve,” Paine, 38, wrote via Instagram on Tuesday, September 9. “The nurses have been so compassionate and have become like family to us.”

He continued, “Recovery is not fast or easy, but we are deeply thankful for every small step forward. It has completely broken my heart to watch my Erin walk through such pain, yet to see her lifting her voice in praise to the Lord in the midst of it has been nothing short of inspiring.”
Several days earlier, Paine revealed that Erin had suffered a “lengthy and severe seizure” and was “half-conscious.” Erin eventually regained consciousness on Saturday, September 6.
“With tears in our eyes, we are praising the Lord that we are on the road to recovery,” she and Paine captioned a joint Instagram video with newborn son Henry. “Your prayers have definitely touched heaven.”
