‘Face of the club’ – Wrexham want Championship rival to bolster their defence

Wrexham are eyeing a late move for Bristol City defender Zak Vyner.
The Robins star is into the final year of his contract at Ashton Gate having signed an extension in September 2023.
Belgian side Gent and Derby were both linked with Vyner earlier in the transfer window.
However, Wrexham have now emerged as contenders after seeing a £1.75million bid rejected for the 28-year-old.
Vyner has played every minute for Bristol City across both the Championship and Carabao Cup so far this term.
The Robins are confident he will remain at the club beyond the deadline, talkSPORT understands.
Championship clubs have until 7pm on Monday to carry out their transfer business.
Wrexham have already made 10 new signings following promotion last season.
Phil Parkinson’s side are back in the second tier for the first time in 42 years thanks to three successive promotions.
He has so far spent a combined £23.7million as well as breaking the club’s transfer record three times.
A successful move for Vyner would see him leave Bristol City after coming through their academy before nine years in the first-team.
Manager Gerhard Struber addressed the interest in the centre-back after Saturday’s win over Hull.
The Austrian told Bristol Live: “I think that Zak Vyner has offers from different clubs, it’s not a surprise for me.
“He is a very important player, and we can see it in every game, how important he is for the club, for the team.
“He is a Bristol City player, he grew here, so he is the face of the club, and we know what we have with him, but for Zak Vyner, I think he is very happy here.
“He is very, very happy here, and he enjoyed the time here, but I’m absolutely not surprised that other clubs have a lot of interest in him and maybe also in the one or other player.
“He’s super important for the here and now, and if we were to lose him, I think this would do big damage for us.
“I think to lose a player on this level, so close before the transfer window closes, I think this would be damaging, but this is not a big discussion between us and the management.
“I hope that nothing happens in this direction in the next few days. I have a very good connection with Zak, and I hope he also realises what he has on us, on the club.
“I am not a dreamer. We know the contract situation, we know this and everything, but I hope he will stay and nothing will happen.”
Vyner has made 240 first-team appearances during his time with Bristol City.
He has spent his entire career with the club outside of loan spells at Accrington, Plymouth, Rotherham and Aberdeen.
