‘Falls asleep’ – Thomas Tuchel singles three England players out for criticism and names the star that ‘passed test’ against Andorra

England may have eased to a 2-0 win over Andorra – but Thomas Tuchel wanted to see more from three of his star attackers.
The Three Lions racked up their fourth World Cup qualifying victory as they proved to be too good against their European opponents.
Despite boasting a whopping 83 per cent possession, England failed to carve out many clear-cut opportunities.
It took an own goal in the 25th minute from Christian Garcia Gonzalez in the 25th minute to break the deadlock, before Declan Rice doubled the hosts’ lead midway through the second half.
And Tuchel appeared to single out Noni Madueke for criticism, along with his Arsenal teammate Eberechi Eze as well as on-loan Barcelona star Marcus Rashford.
talkSPORT’s Adrian Durham rated Eze a 3/10 – the lowest amongst the England squad after he failed to take his chance in the No.10 position.
Eze was name-dropped by Tuchel, who also stated that Madueke needs to do his job in pressing more.
Though he ultimately insisted that the Gunners winger can become a key player for England in the future ahead of Tuesday night’s clash away at Serbia.
What did Thomas Tuchel say about Noni Madueke?
Speaking to ITV about Madueke, who was one of England’s better players, Tuchel was asked to comment on his performance.
To which he said: “Yes, that’s what he needs to give.
“He sometimes has a lack of concentration or falls asleep in counter-pressing, but if he pushes himself he can be a very important player.
“Bukayo [Saka] at the moment is injured for Arsenal and us so that is what he needs to do.”
And Tuchel also name-dropped Madueke when he declared how he wants to see his attacking players be more direct in the final third.
He remarked: “I think we missed the little moments to accelerate the game.
“Maybe Ebz [Eberechi Eze] didn’t have his best day in the No.10 position.
“He trained so well in the decision making, but struggled a little bit.
“The last pass from Noni, the last decision from Noni wasn’t clinical enough and Marcus Rashford had some good moments, but couldn’t finish them with a clinical assist.
“It’s stuff that can happen against a narrow 5-4-1 [formation]. We should have scored the second one earlier, because the second goal gave us a lot of freedom and players moved with a bit more confidence.”
Though one player did stand out for Tuchel, as he praised Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson, who made his England debut.
He even hinted that the former Newcastle midfielder will be in his line-up against Serbia next time out.
Commenting on the 22-year-old’s performance, Tuchel stated: “He did very, very good.
“He was a little nervous at the beginning of the training week – then he did good. We’re sure he can become a very good player.”
Asked whether he has seen enough for him to start against Serbia, Tuchel said: “That was the test – and I think he passed the test.
“There is no reason why he can’t play in Serbia if we decide to have that position for him, he is ready to go.”
