Fan Caught Trying to Steal Something From Jannik Sinner's Bag at US Open

A tennis fan was caught red handed while trying to steal something from the No. 1 player in the world at the 2025 US Open.

Following Jannik Sinner’s fourth round win over Alexander Bublik on Monday, September 1, the Italian tennis star stopped to sign some autographs for fans courtside inside Arthur Ashe Stadium.

In a video shared by Olly Tennis via X, a man was seen attempting to unzip Sinner’s racket bag, which was slung over his shoulder.

A security guard immediately swooped in and prevented the fan from grabbing anything as Sinner, who noticed the man’s attempted theft, scurried off the court.

“Every day, the quality of attendants at tennis tournaments seems to get worse,” one fan commented on the video. “Or is it just that people are getting worse everywhere?”

Another wrote, “The US Open controversies just never end for this year.”

Earlier in the tournament, Polish CEO Peter Szczerk was caught stealing a hat from a young fan that had been gifted by tennis player Kamil Majchrzak.

The incident, which occurred on Thursday, August 29, went viral, eventually prompting an apology from Szczerk on social media, who called his behavior “a grave mistake.”

“Today I know that I did something that looked like I deliberately took a souvenir from a child,” Szczerk wrote on his company’s Instagram page. “It wasn’t my intention, but that doesn’t change the fact that I hurt the boy and disappointed the fans.”

He added, “The cap was given to the boy, and an apology is due to the family. I hope that I have at least partially repaired the harm.”

Majchrzak, a Polish tennis player who was forced to retire during the first set of his third round match against Leandro Riedl, eventually connected with the young fan on the tournament grounds and gave him a new hat.

Szczerk, who owns a landscaping and pavement company in Poland, said that he and his wife have been “involved in helping children and young athletes” for years.

“This situation has shown me that one moment of inattention can undo years of work and support,” he said. “This is a painful but necessary lesson in humility for me. Therefore, I will be even more actively involved in initiatives supporting children and young people and in actions against violence and hate. I believe that only through actions can I rebuild lost trust.”

Sinner, 24, returns to Arthur Ashe Stadium on Wednesday, September 3, for his quarterfinal match against Lorenzo Musetti
