Former Colorado star could outshine ex-teammates Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter while playing alongside Lamar Jackson

Remember the name LaJohntay Wester.
The teammate of Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter at Colorado may just turn out to be the biggest star of the bunch.
While that may be hard to believe considering the fame of Sanders following his dramatic slide to the fifth round of April’s draft. and Hunter being the Heisman Trophy-winning second overall pick, it is not unfathomable.
Sanders has already been designated QB3 in Cleveland, while the Baltimore Ravens drafted receiver Wester one round later in the sixth.
By the end of the season, it wouldn’t be surprising if Wester had a bigger impact on the Ravens than Sanders does on the Browns.
Wester outshining Hunter would be shocking but with Hunter on a rather dysfunctional franchise and Wester in the well-oiled Baltimore machine, lightning could strike.
Wester has made the Ravens’ 53-man roster and is listed behind DeAndre Hopkins on the depth chart. There are a few more names ahead of Wester at the position, but it is an impressive feat for the sixth round rookie.
The young Colorado standout turned heads in the preseason and anyone who watched him last season in Boulder shouldn’t be surprised.
Wester had an 87-yard punt return touchdown in Baltimore’s preseason opener that gave the coaching staff and front office something to talk about.
“Obviously, what LaJohntay did was awesome, just to be aggressive,” head coach John Harbaugh said following the game last month.
“The first punt was a short punt, a tough catch. He ran after it, made it, then he gets yards. Every time he had guys buzzing around him, I thought the blocking was good too, but he made guys miss.”
Ravens teammate Keaton Mitchell praised Wester for his confidence and return ability.
“Congrats to him. He said he was going to take one to the crib and he did it,” Mitchell said of Wester’s score.
“He’s an athlete, a great returner obviously,” Mitchell continued. “He’s definitely going to make something happen in this league at punt returner.”
Wester transferred from Florida Atlantic, where he was a First-Team All-American, to play his final season for Deion Sanders and the Buffaloes.
In his lone season playing alongside Sanders and Hunter, Wester had 74 receptions for 931 yards and 10 touchdowns. He also had a punt return touchdown and is far from your average sixth round pick.
Wester can play, and he did so by carving out a name for himself while playing in the enormous shadow of both Sanders and Hunter.
He forced himself into the spotlight with what he was doing on the field and now he is looking to do the same on a team that has Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry. What’s stopping him?

Wester will get a chance, whether that’s with snaps at receiver or as punt returner behind Tylan Wallace, there will be an opportunity that presents itself to the rookie.
And as a sixth round draft pick, that’s all you can ask for.
The Ravens open the season by returning to the scene of where last season ended: in Buffalo, facing Josh Allen and the Bills on Sunday Night Football in a rematch of the divisional round.
It doesn’t get much bigger than that, especially for a season opener that will surely have postseason ramifications come December.
