Hampshire routs Keyser; Moorefield, Petersburg win; Lighthouse falls
KEYSER, W.Va. — Hampshire's big innings in the second and sixth were the difference in Tuesday's 13-6 win at Keyser.
The Trojans (3-2) scored six runs in the second and five in the fifth.
Mark Richman and Mason Slade hit back-to-back home runs in the top of the second.
The pair of solo shots put Hampshire ahead 2-0.
Three straight hits drove in runs with another scoring on an error to stretch the Trojans lead to 6-0.
Hampshire scored off three hits and two groundouts in the sixth.
Richman earned the win in 3 1/3 frames, allowing four runs on six hits with three walks and four punchouts.
Zeke McDonald finished the game, allowing one earned run on five hits with no walks and eight strikeouts.
Channing Wilt led the Trojans, going 3 for 5.
Lucas Williamson paced the Golden Tornado (1-3) with a 3-for-5 effort.
Hunter Harr and Owen Rotruck each had a pair of hits for Keyser.
Hampshire hosts No. 1 Frankfort (4-1) on Wednesday, before welcoming No. 4 East Hardy (1-0) on Friday at 6 p.m.
Keyser hosts Northern (2-2) on Wednesday, followed by Jefferson on Friday at 2 p.m.
Moorefield 7, Strasburg 4
STRASBURG, Va. — Moorefield trailed 4-0 through three innings but completed a comeback over Strasburg on Tuesday.
The Yellow Jackets (4-2) scored five runs in the top of the fifth.
Eastyn Haines, Caleb Flinn and Kail Greenwalt had RBI hits during the inning.
Flinn's was a three-run triple that gave Moorefield a 5-4 lead.
Flinn, Zakk Keplinger and Edison Metheny each had two hits with Flinn adding three RBIs.
Blake Snyder earned the win, allowing three earned runs on eight hits and a walk across 5 1/3 innings.
Greenwalt earned the save in 1 2/3 frames, not allowing a hit or walk.
Gage Gutierrez took the loss, allowing an unearned run in four frames of work.
Moorefield hosts Elkins for a doubleheader on Saturday at noon.
Petersburg 14, Tucker County 2
PETERSBURG, W.Va. — Petersburg's seven-run first inning was the start of a five-inning rout of Tucker County on Tuesday.
The Vikings (2-1) had three hits and four walks in the first.
Owen Reel led Petersburg with two hits and three stolen bases.
Lukas Wolford threw five innings, allowing one earned run on five hits and two walks with nine strikeouts.
The Vikings host No. 2 Allegany (4-0) on Wednesday, followed by a trip to South Harrison on Friday at 5 p.m.
Hancock 14, Lighthouse 4
CUMBERLAND — Hancock scored six runs in the second and fourth innings to rout Lighthouse in five innings Tuesday.
"I felt we played better overall, but we still need to work on mental toughness," Lighthouse manager Don Swogger said. "We have only played two games and most teams are into their fifth or sixth game by now."
Sammy Scritchfield had two base hits at the top of the Lighthouse lineup. Easton Wagner was tabbed with the loss on the mound.
Hancock's Colton Welch was the winning arm, allowing an unearned run on one hit in three innings of relief with two strikeouts.
Lighthouse (0-2) is at Heritage Academy on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
