Is Packers QB Jordan Love playing today vs. Ravens?
Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love did not clear concussion protocol in time and was ruled out by the team on Friday ahead of Saturday night's showdown with the Baltimore Ravens in Week 17. Without Love, the Packers are expected to start backup Malik Willis for the first time this season and third time over the last two seasons.
Love likely won't be the only quarterback on the sidelines on Saturday night at Lambeau Field. Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson is doubtful to play because of a back injury, so backup Tyler Huntley is the likely starter for John Harbaugh's team. The primetime showdown -- available nationally on Peacock, the subscription streaming service -- will likely feature a backup quarterback versus a backup quarterback.
When was Jordan Love injured?
Love was injured in the second quarter of the Packers' loss to the Chicago Bears in Week 16. Bears defensive end Austin Booker hit Love helmet-to-helmet on a play that was penalized for roughing the passer. Love was clearly shaken on the field, evaluated for a concussion once removed from the field and eventually ruled out when the concussion was confirmed.
Who is the Packers backup QB?
Malik Willis, who took over Love in Chicago and completed 9 of 11 passes and rushed for 44 yards, is expected to start on Saturday night. While Willis hasn't started a game in 2025, he has appeared in three games this season -- completed 12 of 14 passes for 134 yards and two touchdown passes. In 2024, Willis started twice while Love nursed a sprained knee, and the Packers won both games. He also helped lead the Packers back from a second-half deficit in Jacksonville after Love left with a groin injury and had the Packers in position to win again in the regular season finale when Love suffered an elbow injury. Over two seasons in Green Bay, Willis has played in 10 games, completing 76.5 percent of his passes, averaging 10.1 yards per attempt, throwing five touchdown passes and zero interceptions and rushing for 201 yards and a score. Willis is dealing with a right shoulder injury, and he missed a practice on Wednesday with an illness.
Who will be the backup QB on Saturday night?
The third quarterback in Green Bay is Clayton Tune, who has been on the practice squad throughout the regular season. He is expected to be signed to the 53-man roster or elevated from the practice squad to the gameday roster on Saturday. Tune, a 2023 fifth-round pick of the Arizona Cardinals, has appeared in 13 career games with one start. Love will be inactive, leaving Malik Willis and Tune as the two quarterbacks for Saturday night.
When could Love be back in the lineup?
Love must first clear concussion protocol to be eligible to play. He practiced in a limited capacity on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday this week but was not able to pass through the league's five-stage return-to-participation protocol in time to play against the Ravens. That could change by the regular season finale. The Packers face the Minnesota Vikings in Minneapolis in Week 18. One potential question: Will the Packers have anything to play for next week? Matt LaFleur's team already clinched a playoff spot, and the Bears could clinch the NFC North title as soon as Saturday (with a Packers loss to Ravens) or Sunday night (with a win over the 49ers). Love's return is very much TBD.
What does Saturday's game vs. Ravens mean for Packers?
The Packers clinched a playoff spot via the Lions' loss to the Vikings on Christmas Day. But winning the NFC North -- and becoming either the No. 2 or No. 3 seed in the playoff field -- is still very much alive. The Packers need to win out (vs. Ravens and Vikings) and have the Bears lose out (vs. 49ers and Lions) over the final two weeks. Matt LaFleur's team will need Malik Willis to win another game as a starter to keep the Packers in the NFC North race. If the Packers lose, they will be locked into the No. 7 seed entering Week 18.
