Is Tyreek Hill playing for Dolphins in Week 1 against Colts? Latest injury update and Fantasy Football outlook

Tyreek Hill enters the 2025 season shrouded in uncertainty.

While he’s still undoubtedly one of the NFL‘s top wide receivers, the Miami Dolphins star has faced a number of setbacks in recent months.

Hill cut a frustrated figure at the conclusion of the 2024 season, and his very public meltdown, as well as the social media posts that followed, led to trade speculation over the summer.

But despite that unrest, the 31-year-old speedster remains a Dolphin, and now needs to repair his relationship with the organization and their fans.

The best way to do that is by performing on the field. But his hopes of doing so have taken a further hit.

Hill is currently dealing with an oblique strain that sidelined him for all three of Miami’s preseason games, and limited his participation in practice sessions.

Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel has stressed the importance of being cautious with the receiver, meaning his status for Week 1 remains up in the air.

What is the latest on Tyreek Hill’s injury?

Hill didn’t participate in team drills during OTAs or minicamp, as he worked his way back from a wrist surgery.

He then returned for the first two weeks of camp, but later missed most of August with an oblique injury.

The eight-time Pro Bowler was back in practice this week, ahead of Sunday’s opener against the Indianapolis Colts. He was a limited participant on Wednesday and Thursday.

Will Tyreek Hill play in Week 1 against the Colts

Despite only practising in a limited capacity, there is little concern over Hill’s availability for Week 1.

Speaking during media availability on Wednesday, September 3, McDaniel noted that the WR is ‘ramping up’ to play.

“As long as the player who’s out is preparing on the heels of really, really good technical work, he can come back and not only be healthy but be better-suited to do his job,” the HC said.

McDaniel also revealed in late August that the outlook ‘looks great’ for Hill playing against the Colts in Week 1, and the player himself added he feels ‘great’.

“I’m one of those guys, I never fall out of shape,” Hill said.

“I feel like I’ll always be like the hardest worker on the team no matter what, because I’m always doing the small things, whether that’s running after practice when nobody’s watching or whether that’s catching like 500 passes off the Jugs when nobody is watching.

“I’ve been doing all the small things right this whole entire time when nobody is watching, so like I said, I can’t wait to see what happens.”

Why has Hill been removed as Dolphins captain?

While he looks set for Week 1, Hill will not be suiting up with a ‘C’ patch on his jersey.

The wideout has not been selected as a Dolphins captain this year — and has lost the honor for the first time since joining the franchise in 2022.

His omission is due to his behaviour at the end of the 2024 season, as well as the uncertainty that followed.

What are teammates saying about him?

Despite not being named a captain, Hill apparently still holds the trust of his teammates, including Tua Tagovailoa.

Speaking this week, the quarterback shared his excitement about what’s to come in 2025, despite a rocky offseason.

“I think people might have blown it out of proportion to where now we’ve worked on it and I think that conversation is dead now,” Tagovailoa said of Hill.

“I think once people see Tyreek score on Sunday, everyone will forget about that.

“We’re in a good spot and we’ve been in a good spot for some time as well, so I’m really happy with that and pleased with that.”

What were Cheetah’s stats in 2024?

Once an elite Fantasy Football pick, Hill’s production was down in 2024.

Last year, the veteran fell short of the 1,000-yard receiving mark for the first time since 2019.

He racked up 959 yards, just over half of his 2023 total of 1,799, and scored six touchdowns.

Hill was targeted 123 times over the season, and pulled in 81 receptions.

Cheetah’s 12.8 point-per-game fantasy average was a career worst, and saw him slip in many drafts this time around.

He will look to improve on those stats in 2025, and will likely want to make a statement if he does indeed suit up for Week 1.
