Jadon Sancho joins Manchester United’s Premier League rivals in dramatic deadline day transfer

Aston Villa have snapped up Jadon Sancho on a season-long loan deal from Manchester United.
The 25-year-old was part of the Red Devils‘ bomb squad this summer with boss Ruben Amorim making it clear he was not in his plans.
Sancho was omitted from each of United’s opening four matchday squads across all competitions this season.
And the winger has now sealed his second successive deadline day summer exit away from Old Trafford.
It was Chelsea who snapped up the 23-cap England international last season on loan.
From his 41 appearances in all competitions for the Blues, he chipped in with 15 direct goal contributions in all competitions.
He even scored in their UEFA Conference League final triumph over Real Betis.
But the west London outfit ultimately decided against turning his temporary stay into a permanent switch – paying United £5million to get out of their obligation to sign him.
And he has now followed in the footsteps of Marcus Rashford, who made the same loan move from United to Villa in the winter transfer window earlier this year.
It is believed that the Villans have agreed to pay at least 80 per cent of Sancho’s wages during his time spent in the Midlands.
Sancho has now been shipped out three times on loan since joining United in 2021 for £73m – having returned to Borussia Dortmund for the second half of the 2023/24 campaign.
Who else was linked with Jadon Sancho?
Before his move to Villa was finalised, Sancho at one stage looked to be heading to Italy.
Roma lodged a £20m offer to sign the forward to bring an end to his United nightmare.
But he instead rejected a switch to the Stadio Olimpico as he held out for more interest in his services.
Turkish giants Besiktas were also keen on signing Sancho to reunite him with England teammate Tammy Abraham.
However, it is Villa that have won the race to sign Sancho.
And having snubbed a switch to Roma, he could find himself playing in the Italian capital later in the season.
The two clubs are competing in the Europa League, although will not meet until the knockout stages should they both progress.
