Kevin Durant Shares The Surprising Reason He's Against Getting Married Right Now

Kevin Durant is the latest NBA star to speak out about relationships.
Following his peer LeBron James's bold statements about "ruthless" girlfriends, KD shared his own skeptical take on tying the knot.
Kevin Durant Hints Too Many Marriages End In Divorce
Speaking with Bobbi Althoff on her podcast, "Not This Again," Durant, current star of the Houston Rockets, admitted that he's "not actually looking" for a romantic connection at this point in his life. He also shared that marriage isn't his end goal.
"I think divorce is actually more of a realistic… 'cause I mean, the percent is higher," he said, later sharing that 50% of marriages ending in divorce is "not great odds."
And when Althoff told the Olympian he faces worse odds on the hardwood, Durant replied, "Yeah, but still, that's like banking on the rest, like, forever though."
"I don't know if I want to take those odds," he said.
Kevin Durant Shares The Surprising Reason He Doesn't Want To Get Married

As the conversation continued, Durant explained that the concept of "marriage" often prompts him to reflect on what it truly takes to be a partner. "Do I want to be with this somebody every day? Hang with the same person every day?" he said.
Elsewhere, the NBA star spoke about weddings, saying that's never been something he's desired. "It was never really when I go to weddings. It's like, 'Oh, this is cool. This is dope. This is cool,'" he said. "It's not like it needs to happen in my mind."
Is Kevin Durant Totally Against A Long-Term Relationship?

While marriage isn't at the forefront of his mind, Durant admitted he remains "open-minded" to forming a connection with the right person.
"I'm sure that may happen. I'm not closing the door or nothing — but I'm not expecting it. That's all I'm saying," he said.
If that day does come, however, fans can expect that special person to check all of Durant's boxes.
"Oh, just somebody I can hang out with every day that I can talk to, that's cool. You know, the basics. Somebody I could really be friends with, and not look at it as if, like, 'You're my girlfriend,' 'I'm your boyfriend.' Like that expectation, that title, that cloud that comes with that, instead of like, just us being natural friends," he said. "I'd rather that."
He finished by explaining that if he does meet someone, having "no expectations" is better for him, given his specific preferences. "I might not want to talk to you or see you," he said.
Durant's NBA Peer Shared His Thoughts On Relationships These Days

Speaking of relationships, Durant's NBA peer, LeBron James, recently offered a very different perspective, opening up on his wife's podcast about the thought of being single.
"I know I don't want to be alone, that's for d-mn sure," LeBron said. "If I have to fight, crawl, scratch, bite, whatever to keep mine. I got to keep it. I gotta do what I gotta do. I don't want to be alone. I'm [from] an only child, single-parent household."
"The next time I'm alone, I'll be up underneath," he said.
He then challenged the women of today's generation, claiming they have created unrealistic expectations for men. LeBron called them "cutthroat, ruthless a-- b-tches" before defending his teammates who've faced these challenges.
"Listen, I'm in locker rooms," he said. "It's a lot of women out here who have now kinda flipped the script. Some homies out here that's trying to be good, too, and trying to figure it out. Now they're looking in the mirror saying, 'D-mn, what did I do wrong?' Homies, it ain't you."
Durant Got Marijuana Taken Off The NBA's Banned Substance List

While his thoughts on marriage are making headlines now, Durant has also been outspoken on other major issues, including the NBA's stance on marijuana. As previously reported by The Blast, when the NBA and NBPA agreed to remove marijuana from the banned-substances list in 2023, it was revealed that Durant played a major role in making that happen.
The two-time NBA champion reportedly called the NBA commissioner to express his thoughts on the ban, saying, "I just felt like it was becoming a thing around the country, around the world."
He went on, "The stigma behind it wasn't as negative as it was before. It doesn't affect you in any negative way."
