Liverpool head into Sunday’s bout with Arsenal as favourites for victory in a match between last season’s top two Premier League sides, with the defending champions hoping to win back to back league titles for the first time since 1984.

Mikel Arteta’s side manoeuvred their way through a tough opening match against Manchester United at Old Trafford, where they don’t historically have a great record, earning a 1-0 to start the season, before thumping newly promoted Leeds last weekend with a 5-0 home win, including a brace from new striker Viktor Gyokeres.

The Gunners will be hindered by injuries suffered in last weekend’s win to star player Bukayo Saka and club captain Martin Odegaard, though the latter could pave the way for new signing Eberechi Eze to make his debut for the club at Anfield.

Four of the last six meetings between the two sides, including each of the last two, have all ended in stale mates, with one win apiece for either side in that stretch, leaving not much to separate the sides heading into Sunday’s game.
