LSU DL Zion Williams to commits to Texas Football from transfer portal
With interior defensive line as a glaring need, Texas Football has added a big piece to the roster. LSU defensive tackle Zion Williams has committed to the Longhorns through the NCAA transfer portal. At 6’4, 295-pounds he is a very big piece.
A former four-star out of Lufkin, TX the freshman didn't see the field in 2025 for the Tigers. Williams entered the portal after LSU coach Brian Kelly was fired. Texas originally led in Williams' recruitment with former defensive line coach Bo Davis leading the effort. But when Davis went to LSU, Williams followed him.
New Texas defensive coordinator Will Muschamp likes to be strong up the middle with size and power and Williams will help strengthen that area. Williams joins Arkansas transfer Ian Geffrard as defensive tackles signed during this transfer window.

"Just a lot of people where I'm from in Lufkin that I personally know of have gone to play at Texas and had great careers afterwards so I think if they can take care of them, they can take care of me too," Williams said in 2023. "It's Texas— In my opinion Texas has always been good since I was a little kid, and vs. Texas Tech I'll hopefully be able to watch them play, that's gonna be like a little childhood dream of mine just getting to go watch Texas play. I think they're all tight woven and they're a tight knit family and I like that about them."
