Madelyn Cline Teases Filming Sarah's Pregnancy in ‘Outer Banks’ Season 5

Outer Banks season 4 ended with the bombshell reveal that Madelyn Cline’s Sarah Cameron is expecting — and her journey toward parenthood will continue in the next batch of episodes.

“Well, I’m not wearing a baby bump. Everyone’s like, ‘Where’s the baby?’ I don’t know.” Cline, 27, told Variety in a Thursday, September 4, profile, teasing her season 5 arc. “I’m not jumping over walls and getting thrown off the back of boats and sprinting at full speed away from bad guys in a silicone baby bump.”

She continued, “When I said yes to this story line, that was my one stipulation: ‘Please don’t do that to me in the South Carolina summer heat.’ Most of July, the heat index was 100-116.”

OBX season 4 aired in fall 2024, culminating with the finale revelation that Sarah is expecting her first baby after telling partner John B. Routledge (Chase Stokes) that she did not want to be a teen mom.

“They’ve been through a lot of different things as a couple and this is sort of the next stage,” executive producer Shannon Burke told Cosmopolitan in November 2024. “We have this overall arc in our heads of where everyone will end up and what the end will look like, and it just felt like it was time to play that card and have them enter the next stage in their relationship.”

She added, “Obviously, they’ve been together, they’ve been not being a hundred percent loyal to each other and doing things wrong, and they’ve made up. They’re devoted to each other now and this is the next stage.”

Fellow EP Jonas Pate also noted to the outlet that the writers “certainly talked about all the outcomes” of Sarah’s potential pregnancy before polishing the script.

“They are devoted to each other and they’re married — in their own weird way with beer can rings, so it felt real,” Pate, 55, told the outlet. “And there was zero larger statement that we were thinking about outside of these two characters. People might read into it one way or the other, but we weren’t thinking about that.”

Cline, Stokes, 32, and the rest of OBX cast are currently back filming season 5, which will pick up right where the cliffhanger-laden left off.

“We pick up pretty soon after season 4 ends,” Cline teased to Variety. “We have one big time jump in all five, but just like the prior seasons, everything happens in such a short amount of time. It feels like it would be this huge, months-long adventure, but it actually doesn’t take that much time at all. I think this one follows the same formula.”

Outer Banks season 5 premieres on Netflix in 2026.
