Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim has played down talk of January transfer window signings at the club.

The Reds are currently sixth, just three points off the Champions League places. That gap would have been reduced, had United managed to beat rock-bottom side Wolves at home earlier in the week.

However, with a stretched squad, Amorim’s side were forced to share the points at Old Trafford. Despite spending more than £200m in the summer, it seems that United are still in need of more reinforcements.

“The transfer window is not going to change,” the Portuguese coach maintained. “We have no conversations in this moment about any change in the squad.

“There is a process, there is an idea that is going to continue.

“We are near the Champions League places but we are near eight teams behind us. So let’s focus on the next game.”

There has also been suggestions that there could be some high-profile exits from Old Trafford this summer. With no European football and a lack of cup competitions, opportunities have been minimal for some players in the squad.

Kobbie Mainoo is chief amongst those linked away, and out-of-favour striker Joshua Zirkzee could also depart.

“No, none have asked (to leave),” Amorim answered about those linked with an exit. “I don’t expect them to come to me and ask anything.”

As it stands, United’s squad is currently heavily depleted by a combination of several injuries and AFCON absentees. Amorim has been forced to name numerous academy players on the bench in recent matches.

Six players from the academy were listed amongst the substitutes last time out, and that could well be repeated in Leeds on Sunday.

United’s boss said: “We are going with no different issues. We are going to see tomorrow, we have one more training.

“I don’t think anyone is going to recover but we will see.”
