Marisa Ramirez on Shocking 'Boston Blue' Cameo, Teases Baez and Danny Romance

Blue BloodsMarisa Ramirez was “honored” to be a surprise guest star on the Boston Blue series premiere — but warned Us that Maria Baez and Danny Reagan’s romance might not last.

Warning: Spoilers below for season 1, episode 1 of Boston Blue.

“You should always worry about long distance,” Ramirez, 48, exclusively told Us Weekly ahead of her Boston Blue cameo. She added to the ominous warning, “You never know what’s gonna happen. Always worry.”

During the series premiere of Boston Blue on Friday, October 17, fans finally got answers about Danny (Donnie Wahlberg) and Baez’s (Ramirez) relationship fate after the Blue Bloods series finale in December 2024 left them in limbo.

Blue Bloods’ Danny Reagan and Maria Baez’s Relationship Timeline

“The show could have just kind of walked away and said, ‘Oh, you know, Baez and Danny broke up. Big deal. Let’s move on,’” Ramirez revealed to Us, noting the writers bringing their relationship into the spinoff world was “really, really sweet and generous and such a treat for all of the Blue Bloods fans that were kind of all left hanging with their relationship.”

After Danny’s son Sean (Mika Amonsen) was injured in a fire in Boston during the premiere, Danny got a call back in New York City where he was getting out of bed with Baez, confirming they are in fact a couple.

“I thought we said when we stay at my place, we turn our ringers off,” a shirtless Danny told Baez as he cheekily scolded her during one of the opening scenes.

Baez, who was wearing an oversized shirt with her bra peeking through, quipped, “It’s your phone, smart ass.”

Once Danny realized the call was about Sean being in the hospital, Baez consoled him briefly before he hopped on a plane to see his son. Once there, Danny assisted Detective Lena Silver (Sonequa Martin-Green) in solving the case and finding the person responsible for starting the fire that put Sean in the hospital.

Some fans, however, couldn’t get over Baez and Danny’s saucy hookup and their hard launch, which came after Danny asked Baez out for pizza during the Blue Bloods series finale following a decades-long friendship and long-term police partnership.

“I think they went on multiple pizza dates,” Ramirez joked to Us, revealing that the exact amount of time between the Blue Bloods finale and Boston Blue’s premiere is unclear.

While fans — and Ramirez herself — are excited that Danny and Baez are an item, the actress told Us their physical distance could cause problems moving forward. (Danny vowed to stay by Sean’s side in Boston during the premiere until he was safely out of the hospital and back on his feet.)

While Ramirez said she thinks Baez and her daughter, Elena, “could move to Boston no problem,” she confessed that her future on the spinoff is unknown.

“To me, it’s not that fun to watch such a happy couple. It’s fun when there’s ups and downs and arguments and kind of getting back together,” she explained. “It’s more fun to watch kind of turmoil in relationships, because it makes it that much sweeter when it works out and they get together.”

Ramirez teased that as Boston Blue continues — and Danny builds a life in Boston while Baez is in New York — fans can expect “a little bit of push and pull and back and forth until something does happen” to make them find a better solution.

Ramirez, however, noted that she’s “not closing any doors” after her premiere cameo. “I would hope she’s gonna be in more than just one scene out of this whole season, right?” she added, playing coy about how many times fans will see her character.

“I just think that you’re honestly just gonna have to watch,” she said, adding, “But still be worried about the long distance thing working out or not working out.”

Boston Blue airs on CBS Fridays at 10 p.m. ET.
