Matheus Cunha posts cryptic injury update days after he was forced off in Manchester United game

Manchester United may have been handed a swift injury boost by Matheus Cunha.

The £62million summer signing has been a bright addition to Ruben Amorim‘s squad – but was forced off early in their 3-2 win over Burnley.

Last time out at Old Trafford, the Brazilian forward was replaced by Joshua Zirkzee after just 31 minutes.

It looked like a hamstring issue, which will have worried the Red Devils’ Portuguese boss given their rocky start to the campaign.

Prior to the win against the Clarets, they were humiliatingly dumped out of the EFL Cup by Grimsby Town, while they had also drawn with Fulham and lost to Arsenal in the Premier League.

That was despite an outlay of around £215million on new superstars.

However, Cunha looks to have teased a quick comeback to fans on social media, with a huge Manchester derby as their next match.

The former Wolves star, hours after expressing his love for a vintage Manchester United shirt, posted an image of himself on a static bike.

It was then accompanied by the caption ‘The time is flying’, alongside emojis of a clock and a stick of dynamite.

That has got some Manchester United fans excited for a quick return.

“Manchester United derby we are coming,” one said on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Another added: “He really wanna play that derby so bad 😂 quick recovery my bro.”

A third said: “Cunha returning very soon, we need him more this season.”

Cunha joins Mason Mount, Diogo Dalot, and Lisandro Martinez as current absentees.

Like the Brazilian, Mount also left the Burnley match early.

He was substituted at half-time of the game with Kobbie Mainoo replacing him.

“It was hard to lose Cunha and Mason Mount, because Mason Mount played 30 minutes with an injury,” Amorim said after the game.

“I’m concerned about that, because they are so important for us. We will see.”

Amorim then added: “I don’t know [how they are], I don’t know. We will check them. We need those guys really bad to be really competitive.”

Dalot’s injury will be a concern too as he was sent home from international duty with Portugal with ‘muscle discomfort’.

Meanwhile, Martinez is a long-term absentee with a knee injury.
