The Miss Universe 2025 competition has been thrown into controversy after winner Victoria Theilvig stormed out of a live-streamed event in Bangkok, Thailand, moments after a senior pageant official publicly reprimanded Miss Mexico, Melissa Flores Bosch, for allegedly showing “disrespect.” The shocking exchange unfolded during a sashing ceremony at the delegates’ hotel, where Nawat Itsaragrisil, Vice President for Asia and Oceania within the Miss Universe Organization, confronted Bosch in front of dozens of contestants and the cameras.

Miss Universe Winner Walks Out After Official Calls Miss Mexico ‘Dumb’ During Live Broadcast

Footage broadcast on the official Miss Universe Thailand Facebook page shows Nawat calling Bosch to stand and “explain herself” for missing a sponsor shoot earlier in the day. When the visibly uncomfortable Miss Mexico refused to engage, saying she did not wish to be “publicly reprimanded,” Nawat interrupted, called her “dumb,” and instructed security to remove her from the event.

As Bosch exited, several contestants stood up in protest, among them, Theilvig, who later declared she would not remain in the venue. “This is about women’s rights,” she said before leaving. “We have respect for everyone, but this is not how things can be handled. To trash another girl. It’s beyond disrespectful. That’s why I’m taking my coat and I’m going.”

Clips of Theilvig’s walkout have gone viral, with fans and former contestants flooding social media to praise her “courage” and “integrity.”

One viewer wrote, “The way he belittles Miss Mexico is making my blood boil.” Another viral post praised Melissa Flores Bosch’s composure in the face of public humiliation, writing, “They just treated her terribly, attacked and humiliated her in front of everyone, and yet, on the verge of tears, she gave an incredible speech urging women not to let themselves be trampled on by men like him. She’s a queen.”

Others were outraged by reports that Nawat allegedly warned contestants to stay seated if they wanted to remain in the competition. “He DARED to threaten the rest of the candidates,” one fan fumed. “Telling them if they wanted to continue, they had to stay in the room? That’s intimidation, not empowerment.”

Support For Miss Mexico Pours In Amid Walkout Fallout

Fans around the world continue to rally behind Miss Mexico, with messages of solidarity flooding comment sections and fan forums. Many are calling out what they see as an unacceptable abuse of power within a competition built on “female empowerment.”

“Big no to this guy!” one user wrote, echoing a wave of outrage directed at the pageant official. Another added, “I wish more women would have left, but they were threatened! Venga Fátima!!!"

The sentiment was shared across social media, where users described the incident as “blatant disrespect” and praised those who stood up or walked out. “The disrespect is so loud,” one fan posted. “That’s why I understand why she walked out.”

Miss Universe Breaks Silence On Bangkok Walkout As Fans Accuse Organization Of ‘Toxic Culture’

In a statement shared after the incident, the Miss Universe Organization said all events would continue as planned:

“All scheduled events and activities will continue as planned, reaffirming our shared goal of delivering an exceptional celebration that reflects the values of diversity, empowerment, and inclusion that define the Miss Universe legacy.”

Miss Universe Faces ‘Rigging’ Claims After Crowning Of Miss Cuba 2025

This latest controversy follows months of backlash over transparency and favoritism within the competition. Earlier this year, fans accused the organization of “rigging” results after Miss Cuba 2025, Lina Luaces, was crowned.

Luaces is the daughter of Univision host Lili Estefan and niece of Gloria and Emilio Estefan, sparking outrage over alleged nepotism. “It’s rigged,” one user commented under the official Miss Universe Cuba Instagram account. “She was born into privilege. How is that fair competition?”

As the Miss Universe Organization attempts to move forward, the Bangkok walkout has left a lasting mark, exposing deep divisions between the brand’s message of empowerment and the behavior fans say tells a very different story.
