Patrick Mahomes makes NFL history and breaks 34-year-old record held by Hall of Famer Dan Marino

The superstar quarterback continues to break record after record.

The 2025 NFL season is not even two days old, yet Patrick Mahomes has already claimed another record.

The Kansas City Chiefs star quarterback now has the most regular season touchdown passes by a player under the age of 30 in NFL history with 246.

With his touchdown to Travis Kelce in the fourth quarter in Sao Paulo, Brazil against the Los Angeles Chargers, he passed Hall of Fame Dan Marino.

The Miami Dolphins‘ franchise quarterback set the record back on September 8, 1991. A week before his 30th birthday, Marino found Jim Jenson for his 245th touchdown pass. A record that would stand for over three decades.

Meanwhile, 29-year-old Mahomes entered tonight’s game with 245 touchdown passes himself—needing just one more to break the record and claim it outright.

Mission accomplished.

Mahomes turns 30 on September 17, so he was running out of time if he wanted to stand alone at the top. Consider it done.

The Chiefs are looking to get the sour taste of last season’s finish out of their mouths, after the Philadelphia Eagles steamrolled them 40-22 in Super Bowl LIX.

But they will now be looking ahead to Week 2, as the Chiefs fell to the Chargers 27-21. Kansas City looked to be stuck in neutral for most of the game until the fourth quarter.

Coming into the game, Mahomes had an astonishing 35-5 career record against his division foes and was 10-2 against the Chargers specifically.

He was 6-1 in Week 1, while throwing for 21 touchdowns against only two interceptions. He’s usually at his best out of the gate, and only gets better.

Well, make that 35-6, 10-3 and now 6-1.

The Chiefs won’t have time to lick their wounds, as the defending Super Bowl champion Eagles come to town next week.

It’s a Super Bowl LIX rematch, where they can truly get last season’s taste out of their mouths, against the team that did them in.

However, if they come out like they did against the Chargers, the game could look might similar to what it did last February.

Mahomes will have one more game to add to his record of 246 touchdown passes before he turns 30 the following week.

It will be their first home game of the season in Arrowhead, and it’s guaranteed to be rocking. It’s up to Mahomes and company to get off the schneid.

And there’s no better opponent they would like to do that against than the Eagles.
