Prince Harry Wins U.K. Battle for Security After Several Appeals: Report

Prince Harry may have just secured a major win in his ongoing battle for security protection in the U.K.

The Mail on Sunday reported on Sunday, January 4, that Harry, 41, and his family will be allowed government-funded security during trips to his home country after a new risk assessment from the Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures (RAVEC).

“It’s now a formality,” the report read. “Sources at the Home Office have indicated that security is now nailed on for Harry.”

Mail on Sunday claimed that an official announcement should be coming within weeks. A separate insider told People on Monday, January 5, that the government is moving in a “positive” direction regarding the decision about Harry’s security.

A spokesperson for Team Sussex declined to comment on Monday. “We don’t comment on security matters,” they stated.

When Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, stepped down from their roles as senior working royals in 2020, they lost the right to government-funded security in the U.K. The Duke of Sussex has been fighting to get it back ever since.

He traveled to his home country in April 2025 for a two-day court case regarding the issue. It was announced in May 2025 that Harry had lost in court.

“This process has only ever been about ensuring my safety and that of my immediate family when we are in the United Kingdom, so that we may safely visit my home country with the same level of security that other governments deem necessary for our protection,” Harry wrote, in part, after the court decision went public.

The Duke of Sussex maintained that his ask is “simple,” in a lengthy statement released at the time.

“That the standard protocols for security and risk assessments be applied to me in the same way they are to others — including people who have never carried out any public functions on behalf of the State,” he added, noting that he has been denied a “basic duty of care” by not getting the proper security measures.

“It’s true that I have been treated as an exception on this issue,” he wrote. “The conditions of my security were not made based on threat, risk, and impact, they were made based on my role — one that my wife and I wanted to maintain, but that was ultimately refused.”

In his first sitdown interview after the loss, Harry discussed the difficulties of bringing his family, including son Archie, 6, and daughter Lilibet, 4, to the U.K. without protection.

“I can’t see a world in which I would bring my wife and children back to the UK at this point,” Harry told the BBC in May 2025. “I love my country, I always have done, despite what some people in that country have done.”

By December 2025, RAVEC had instructed their risk management board to conduct an official review of Harry’s threat level when he is traveling to the U.K. The Mail on Sunday report alleged that the report found Harry was eligible for armed protection while traveling home.

“The only thing that could scupper his approval now would be an intervention from the Palace,” a source claimed.

While there are still some major tensions between Harry and his brother, Prince William, Harry has been attempting to mend his relationship with his father, King Charles III. The duo sat down together for a closed-door meeting in September 2025. This marked the first time the father and son were in the same room since Charles, 77, was diagnosed with cancer in 2024.
