Ryder Cup 2025 teams: Profiles, world rankings, caps and records for stars representing Europe and USA

Luke Donald will be looking to lead Team Europe to glory over their American rivals once again at the 2025 Ryder Cup later this month.

Donald captained Europe to a superb win in Rome two years ago as Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm and Tommy Fleetwood starred in a brilliant event.

All you need to know about 2025 Ryder Cup

It followed on from the USA’s dominant victory at Whistling Straits in 2021 and sets up an intriguing match-up at Bethpage Black in late September.

The last Ryder Cup was full of needle and controversy off the course as well as sublime action on it.

That is sure to continue as the rowdy crowds of New York welcome golf’s best for the prestigious team event.

Captains Keegan Bradley and Luke Donald has now confirmed their squads and here each player’s world ranking, Ryder Cup records and much more…

Ryder Cup 2025 teams

Team USA

Scottie Scheffler (Automatic Qualifier)

Age: 29 – Ryder Cup Caps: 2 (2021, 2023) – Ryder Cup Record: Won 2, Lost 2, Halved 3 – Majors: 4 (2022, 2024 Masters, 2025 PGA Championship, 2025 Open) – World Ranking: 1

As the undisputed World No1, Scheffler will be expected to lead the Americans to glory. He won two majors this year and has 12 victories since the last Ryder Cup. He excels in every facet of the game but the pressure on his shoulders did result in a poor showing in Rome. He’ll be eager to bounce back and will likely play every session.

JJ Spaun (Automatic Qualifier)

Age: 35 – Ryder Cup debut – Majors: 1 (2025 US Open) – World Ranking: 7

Spaun has enjoyed a breakout year with a string of impressive displays culminating in his US Open success at Oakmont in June. He also lost in a play-off to McIlroy at The Players in March. The late-bloomer on the PGA Tour has never played in a team event and hasn’t shown great form since his major win.

Xander Schauffele (Automatic Qualifier)

Age: 31 – Ryder Cup Caps: 2 (2021, 2023) – Ryder Cup Record: Won 4, Lost 4, Halved 0 – Majors: 2 (2024 PGA Championship, 2024 Open) – World Ranking: 3

Following an incredible 2024 campaign, an injury has hampered Schauffele this season but he remains one of the best in the game. He has formed a great partnership with Patrick Cantlay in team events and that pairing will likely be on show again in New York. Despite some indifferent form in the PGA Tour this year, he did play well at all four majors.

Russell Henley (Automatic Qualifier)

Age: 36 – Ryder Cup debut – Majors: 0 – World Ranking: 4

Henley claimed the biggest win of his career back in March by claiming glory at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. He also finished second in the FedEx Cup this season. The 36-year-old is one of the best iron players in the game and performed well alongside Scheffler in the 2024 Walker Cup in another key pairing for the USA.

Harris English (Automatic Qualifier)

Age: 36 – Ryder Cup Caps: 1 (2021) – Ryder Cup Record: Won 1, Lost 2, Halved 0 – Majors: 0 – World Ranking: 10

The 2025 Farmers Insurance Open champion finished as runner-up at both the PGA Championship and The Open this summer. His brilliant putting and unflappable demeanour will be useful attributes at the Ryder Cup but he does not have the beat record in team events.

Bryson DeChambeau (Automatic Qualifier)

Age: 32 – Ryder Cup Caps: 2 (2018, 2021) – Ryder Cup Record: Won 2, Lost 3, Halved 1 – Majors: 2 (200, 2024 US Open) – World Ranking: 18

As the only LIV Golf player in the American team this year, DeChambeau could perhaps feel like something of an outsider. He was not allowed to play in the USA’s tune-up tournament at the Procore Championship and has had to rework his schedule to meet up with his team-mates throughout the year. Despite that, DeChambeau remains one of the very best and showed his quality at the Masters and PGA Championship this year. He also won LIV Golf Korea and finished third in the overall season standings on the breakaway tour.

Justin Thomas (Captain’s Pick)

Age: 32- Ryder Cup Caps: 3 (2018, 2021, 2023) – Ryder Cup Record: Won 7, Lost 4, Halved 2 – Majors: 2 (2017, 2022 PGA Championship) – World Ranking: 5

In a team lacking Ryder Cup experience, JT has the most knowledge of what it takes to perform well at the event and much will be expected from the USA’s talisman. Thomas claimed his first win in three years at the RBC Heritage in April but struggled to show his best at the majors this summer.

Collin Morikawa (Captain’s Pick)

Age: 28 – Ryder Cup Caps: 2 (2021, 2023) – Ryder Cup Record: Won 4, Lost 3, Halved 1 – Majors: 2 (2020 PGA Championship, 2021 Open) – World Ranking: 8

Arguably the most fortunate to make the USA team, Morikawa has had a tough year. After two early-season runner-up finishes, he has struggled since and missed the cut at the Scottish Open and The Open. He was brilliant at Whistling Straits in 2021 and will hope to recapture some of that magic.

Ben Griffin (Captain’s Pick)

Age: 29 – Ryder Cup debut – Majors: 0 – World Ranking: 17

One of two rookie picks, Griffin has announced himself as a star player on the PGA Tour this season. He won the Zurich Classic of New Orleans and Charles Schwab Challenge in the spring and enjoyed a brilliant scoring average on tour all season. His great grandfather played baseball for the New York Yankees and should have plenty of home support.

Cameron Young (Captain’s Pick)

Age: 28 – Ryder Cup debut – Majors: 0 – World Ranking: 20

As yet another rookie on Bradley’s roster, Young will also be counting on fan support to help him excel as the 28-year-old was born just 50 miles away from Bethpage. He finally won his first PGA Tour title at the Wyndham Championship in August and was in contention for US Open glory too.

Patrick Cantlay (Captain’s Pick)

Age: 33 – Ryder Cup Caps: 2 (2021, 2023) – Ryder Cup Record: Won 5, Lost 2, Halved 1 – Majors: 0 – World Ranking: 21

Cantlay is now without a professional win since August 2022 but his superb Ryder Cup record saw him make the team again. The 2021 FedEx Cup champion finished the season well but missed the cut at three of the four majors this summer. Cantlay was one of the USA’s few bright sparks in Rome and was incredible at Whistling Straits. His notoriously slow play could be used as a tactic to get under the skins of the Europeans.

Sam Burns (Captain’s Pick)

Age: 29 – Ryder Cup Caps: 1 (2023) – Ryder Cup Record: Won 1, Lost 2, Halved 0 – Majors: 0 – World Ranking: 22

Many expected Bradley to pick himself over Burns but the some good late-season form and his supreme putting saw him make the team. Burns’ last career win came in March 2023 but that was at the WGC Match Play. Burns is great friends with Scheffler in what could be another key pairing.

Team Europe

Rory McIlroy (Automatic Qualifier)

Age: 36 – Ryder Cup Caps: 7 (2018) – Ryder Cup Record: Won 1, Lost 2, Halved 0 – Majors: 5 (2025 Masters, 2012, 2014 PGA Championship, 2011 US Open, 2014 Open) – World Ranking: 2

McIlroy will be the most experienced man on either team at Bethpage and will hope to use his wealth of knowledge to mastermind a rare away win. A victory in New York would cap off a remarkable year for the Northern Irishman who claimed Masters glory to become a Grand Slam champion in April. The five-time Ryder Cup winner was in sublime form in Rome and will want to hit back from his poor showing at Whistling Straits.

Robert MacIntyre (Automatic Qualifier)

Age: 29 – Ryder Cup Caps: 1 (2023) – Ryder Cup Record: Won 2, Lost 0, Halved 1 – Majors: 0 – World Ranking: 9

MacIntyre’s stock continued to rise this year as he moved into the world’s top ten players. The Scot won the RBC Canadian Open and Genesis Scottish Open last year and was the runner-up to Spaun at the US Open. Bob also performed well at The Open and was second to Scheffler at the recent BMW Championship. MacIntyre was unbeaten at the last Ryder Cup and will have plenty of confidence to excel again in New York.

Tommy Fleetwood (Automatic Qualifier)

Age: 34 – Ryder Cup Caps: 3 (2018, 2021, 2023) – Ryder Cup Record: Won 7, Lost 3, Halved 2 – Majors: 0 – World Ranking: 6

Fleetwood will be one of the most popular players at the Ryder Cup this year despite wearing the light blue of Europe. He ended his long wait for a PGA Tour win in late August by claiming glory in the season-ending TOUR Championship and become the new FedEx Cup champion in the process. The Englishman has a fine record in the Ryder Cup and claimed the winning point in Rome two years ago.

Justin Rose (Automatic Qualifier)

Age: 45- Ryder Cup Caps: 6 (2008, 2012, 2014, 2016, 2018, 2023) – Ryder Cup Record: Won 14, Lost 9, Halved 3 – Majors: 1 (2013 US Open) – World Ranking: 12

The oldest player at the last Ryder Cup will be the oldest player in New York too but Rose continues to defy his age and play top-class golf. He lost to McIlroy in a play-off at The Masters before winning the FedEx St. Jude Championship last month and has also performed well at a number of other top events over the past two years. Rose was also part of the team that pulled off the ‘Miracle at Medinah’ in 2012 – the last away team to win a Ryder Cup.

Tyrrell Hatton (Automatic Qualifier)

Age: 33 – Ryder Cup Caps: 3 (2018, 2021, 2023) – Ryder Cup Record: Won 5, Lost 4, Halved 2 – Majors: 0 – World Ranking: 25

The first of two LIV Golf players on Europe’s team, Hatton remains one of the most consistent players in world golf. He had a great chance to win the US Open in June and won the Hero Dubai Desert Classic at the start of the year. Hatton has formed good partnerships with Jon Rahm and Shane Lowry in past Ryder Cups.

Rasmus Hojgaard (Automatic Qualifier)

Age: 28 – Ryder Cup debut – Majors: 0 – World Ranking: 64

Hojgaard replaces his twin brother Nicolai as the only change in Donald’s team from two years ago in Rome. While he is the lowest ranked player at the event (ignoring Rahm’s LIV-affected ranking), the Dane has been impressive on both the PGA Tour and DP World Tour this year. He came second at both the Danish Golf Championship and Omega European Masters in August.

Lowry will be a key man for Europe

Shane Lowry (Captain’s Pick)

Age: 38 – Ryder Cup Caps: 2 (2021, 2023) – Ryder Cup Record: Won 2, Lost 3, Halved 1 – Majors: 1 (2019 Open) – World Ranking: 23

Lowry just missed out on automatic qualification to Donald’s team having had nine top 20s on the PGA Tour this season. While he was without a win, the Irishman was second at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am and the Truist Championship. Lowry has been one of the most passionate Ryder Cup players over the past two editions and will no doubt bring that intensity to Bethpage.

Sepp Straka (Captain’s Pick)

Age: 32 – Ryder Cup Caps: 1 (2023) – Ryder Cup Record: Won 1, Lost 2, Halved 0 – Majors: 0 – World Ranking: 13

Straka has been dealing with some personal life issues in the lead up to the Ryder Cup which has seen his form dip in recent months. But the big Austrian was a two-time winner on the PGA Tour this season and had nine over top 20s. While born in Vienna, Straka has played in the States since his high school years and knows how to deal with long, tough US courses.

Jon Rahm (Captain’s Pick)

Age: 30 – Ryder Cup Caps: 3 (2018, 2021, 2023) – Ryder Cup Record: Won 6, Lost 3, Halved 3 – Majors: 1 (2023 Masters, 2021 US Open) – World Ranking: 80

The Spanish superstar remains one of the best in world golf despite his move to LIV. Rahm performed well at all four majors this year and was the LIV Golf individual points winner for the second-straight season. He won nine times on the PGA Tour before leaving and has the perfect game for Bethpage. Rahm will be a key man for Donald yet again.

Viktor Hovland (Captain’s Pick)

Age: 27 – Ryder Cup Caps: 2 (2021, 2023) – Ryder Cup Record: Won 3, Lost 4, Halved 3 – Majors: 0 – World Ranking: 15

The Norwegian hit back from his slump in form with a surprise win at the Valspar Championship in March. Following on from his excellent 2023 season, Hovland then struggled to replicate his elite play but has looked back to his best again recently. He excelled in his approach play on the PGA Tour this year and was a key point winner for Europe in Rome.

Ludvig Aberg (Captain’s Pick)

Age: 25 – Ryder Cup Caps: 1 (2023) – Ryder Cup Record: Won 2, Lost 2, Halved 0 – Majors: 0 – World Ranking: 14

After being a surprise pick at the last Ryder Cup, Aberg is now an established star in world class golf. The Swede won the Genesis Invitational earlier this year and was in contention at the Masters again. Aberg formed an impressive partnership with fellow Scandinavian Hovland in Rome and that will likely be repeated at Bethpage.

Matt Fitzpatrick (Captain’s Pick)

Age: 31 – Ryder Cup Caps: 3 (2016, 2021, 2023) – Ryder Cup Record: Won 1, Lost 7, Halved 0 – Majors: 1 (2022 US Open) – World Ranking: 29

Fitzpatrick beat off competition from several names to claim the final place on Donald’s team. The 2022 US Open champion has a horrible Ryder Cup record and he will be eager to improve it in New York. After struggling in the first part of the year, the Englishman has had seven top tens over the past couple of months to play himself into form and back onto the European side.
