'Selling Sunset' Fans Think Editing Error Proves Blake Scene Is From Season 8
Selling Sunset fans have questions about a season 9 scene with Emma Hernan‘s boyfriend, Blake Davis, which is seemingly reused from a past season.
Netflix released the new batch of episodes on October 28, which included a scene where Emma’s friends Chrishell Stause and Chelsea Lazkani sat down to speak with Blake. While Chrishell, 44, wasn’t thrilled by Emma’s boyfriend, Chelsea, 32, appeared to be more supportive.
Viewers, however, were quick to question the timeline since Chelsea was still wearing her wedding ring — despite being estranged from now ex-husband Jeff Lazkani in season 9. There was also the fact that Chrishell previously posted photos of her, Emma, 33, and Chelsea from the outing, which she noted was cut from season 8.
“These days of filming didn’t make it into season 8 of #SellingSunset so I can post them now,” she wrote via Instagram in September 2024. “A scene where Emma introduced us to who she actually WAS dating. This was pretty funny bc I didn’t like him. So maybe it’s for the best 😆😅.”
Every 'Selling Sunset' Editing Mistake Caught by Fans Throughout the Seasons
Emma previously told Us Weekly that she filmed with Blake — only for it to not air.
“He went and filmed and put himself out there as well, and they cut everything,” she exclusively shared in December 2024. “There’s a few scenes where I have a bite mark on my arm, and they try to play it like they don’t know who it is. But we all know who it is. There’s a few scenes that if you go back in the season and kind of pay attention to what they did now, it’s super messed-up.”
She continued: “I have been super private about my relationships my entire life. Even before the show, I’ve always been a private person when it comes to relationships. But producers came to me and they said that they really wanted to see my love life and who I’m dating. I opened up my life, and what happened was the complete opposite from what we filmed.”

Despite feeling frustrated by Blake’s exclusion in season 8, Emma didn’t rule out him appearing in future seasons — and he did. The scene where he spoke with Chrishell and Chelsea seemed to be repurposed from season 8 but the rest of the reason was just as tumultuous as Emma struggled to defend her relationship.
“Who hasn’t dated a guy that your family or friends don’t agree with? I am human and I have feelings. Unfortunately, I made a connection with someone who isn’t the most likable person. There was a conversation that needed to be had,” Emma explained at the reunion, which aired on Wednesday, November 5. “He doesn’t always behave, so that is why I take distance a lot.”
Selling Sunset's Chrishell and Emma's Friendship Timeline Before Falling Out
Before the special premiered, Emma confirmed to Us that she was no longer friends with Chrishell but was still with Blake.
“I have enjoyed my time with him and I couldn’t keep worrying about what other people say or who they want me to be with. Ultimately I have to follow my heart and even if I have to learn the hard way, this is somebody that I’m choosing to be with,” she shared earlier this month. “Everyone can say what they want — or they can either love him or hate him. But ultimately, it’s my choice who I end up with.”
After filming the season 9 reunion, Emma chose not to hide her romance with Blake, adding, “A few of the girls were like, ‘If that’s your man, then say that’s your man. Just own it. No one can dictate who you can or can’t be with.’ So I decided I am going to be open to this relationship and not be ashamed of my best friend not liking him. If it works, it works and if it doesn’t, it doesn’t. But I don’t want to have any regrets that I cared what other people thought when I did enjoy my time with him.”
Selling Sunset is currently streaming on Netflix.
