‘SNL’ Alum Jorma Taccone Shatters Pelvis in 20 Foot Fall: What to Know

Saturday Night Live alum Jorma Taccone is recovering from multiple injuries after falling 20 feet off a ladder.

“I felt it give way, like it’s starting to go, and I’m like, ‘Oh no.’ In this moment, my life flashes before my eyes,” Taccone, 48, said on the Tuesday, September 2, episode of the “Lonely Island and Seth Meyers” podcast. “And I’m like, ‘Oh no, I have to get off this ladder.’ I had enough time as I’m falling to be like, ‘I’m going to die.’ I drop, I look over, I see the yard, I’m like, ‘This is going to hurt a lot.’”

Taccone, who is a member of the Lonely Island alongside Andy Samberg and Akiva Schaffer, shared that he landed on his bottom and already felt “numb.”

“I hit the ground. I’m tangled up in the ladder. I know something is really bad,” he explained. “I go to the hospital. It turns out I have shattered my pelvis on my left-hand side pretty badly. My sacrum has detached from my spine. By the way, all of this sounds worse than it is.”

After learning of his fall, Samberg, Schaffer and Meyers shared that they were “worried sick” about Taccone. While Taccone is in a lot of pain from his injuries, he confessed that he feels grateful it wasn’t worse.

“It’s so weird to say this, but I’m insanely lucky,” he said. “The craziest thing was that my doctor came in this morning and was like, ‘Oh yeah, if you would have hit your heels … that would have been 10 times worse.’”

Taccone was in the middle of a home improvement project. One of his goals for the summer was to create a “big mural” at the top of the barn of his Connecticut home. In addition to the mural, Taccone wanted to hang up lights at the apex, which is approximately “25 feet” tall.

The comedian shared that he borrowed a ladder from a neighbor who warned him it wasn’t in the best condition.

His wife, Marielle Heller, questioned whether the project needed to be done “now,” but Taccone shared it would look “really nice” and proceeded with the task.

How Did Jorma Taccone Fall Off the Ladder?

Taccone had a friend helping him with the project since the ladder wasn’t sturdy. At one point, the pal went inside to get a drink, and Taccone decided to keep working.

“I’m almost done, I’ve done most of the [barn]. When this happens, I’m probably 20 feet off the ground on this very rickety ladder, and I have it diagonal,” he recalled. “The legs are not good, the base of the ladder is not good.”

The ladder then gave out, and Taccone hit the ground on his behind.

“I fall straight on my butt, taking all of the impact on my butt. Then I do a lot of screaming and cursing,” he reflected. “Keep in mind, it’s my daughter’s 5th birthday party, so it wasn’t the coolest way to start the day. I’m like, ‘Call an ambulance!'”
