Strong start fuels Warriors' blowout win over Trail Blazers, 119-97
Prior to Tuesday's contest at Chase Center, the Golden State Warriors have already played the Portland Trail Blazers three times this season. In each game, the Trail Blazers have tallied 127 points or more in three straight victories over the Warriors. Yet, on Tuesday for their fourth matchup of the season, it was a different story.
In the opening quarter, the Warriors landed the first haymaker. The Warriors tallied 38 points to jump ahead to a 14-point advantage in the first frame. Draymond Green and Moses Moody started the game strong, each knocking down a 3-pointer and combining for 13 points in the first quarter. Jimmy Butler added seven points on 3-of-4 shooting in the first quarter.
After blitzing the Blazers out of the gate, the Warriors used their strong start to complete a wire-to-wire blowout victory, 119-97. At halftime, the Warriors stretched their lead to 26 points. The Warriors led by as many as 29 points in the game.
De'Anthony Melton registered a game-high 23 points on 9-of-14 shooting from the field with four made 3-pointers in 18 minutes off the bench. In the second half, Melton tallied 11 consecutive points for the Warriors. Melton has recorded double figures in scoring in four straight games, with two 22-plus point performances over that span.
Brandin Podziemski added 15 points on 6-of-10 shooting with three made 3-pointers and four boards in 22 minutes off the bench. Golden State's bench unit tallied 69 of Golden State's 119 points.
Moody finished the game with 14 points on 5-of-9 shooting from the field with four made 3-pointers to go along with three assists, two rebounds, and a block in 23 minutes. Moody's 14 points was his highest scoring performance in three weeks.
Steph Curry had a quiet scoring night, scoring just seven points on 2-of-9 shooting from the field. Curry's seven points was his lowest scoring total of the season and only the second time this season he's failed to reach double-figures. However, Curry did lead the team with 11 assists.
The Warriors will continue their homestand on Thursday when the New York Knicks come to San Francisco.
