Texas A&M junior LB officially declares for the 2026 NFL Draft

The Texas A&M draft declarations continue to roll in, and one of the program’s most respected leaders is now headed to the next level. Junior linebacker and team captain Taurean York has officially declared for the 2026 NFL Draft, opting out of his senior season after an exceptional three-year career in Aggieland.

York announced his decision on Tuesday on social media, confirming that he will forgo any remaining eligibility and begin preparing for the NFL. After three seasons as a full-time starter, tone setter, and the emotional heartbeat of the Aggie defense, the move comes as little surprise—especially following a historic year in Bryan‑College Station.

While 2025 wasn’t his most productive season statistically, York’s value was never measured solely in numbers. As the quarterback of one of the nation’s top third‑down defenses, he consistently diagnosed plays, aligned the front seven, and elevated the unit with his football IQ. What he may not possess in prototypical measurables, he more than made up for with instincts, leadership, and command. In many ways, he operated like a coach on the field.

York was also an ideal fit in Mike Elko’s system, serving as the bridge between the coaching staff and a young, developing linebacker room. His presence helped accelerate the growth of the next wave of Aggie defenders, and his leadership became a defining trait of the program’s defensive identity.

His departure leaves another significant hole for Texas A&M to fill. Still, his impact—on the field, in the locker room, and within the culture of the program—won’t soon be forgotten as he begins his professional journey.
