Theresa Nist Reveals What It Was Like Seeing Gerry Turner After Book Release
Theresa Nist had a near run-in with ex-husband Gerry Turner at the The Golden Bachelor finale days after the release of his tell-all memoir.
“It was uncomfortable when we were all mulling around before we went into the audience,” Theresa, 72, said during the Friday, November 14, episode of iHeartRadio’s “Almost Famous” podcast. “Because once we were in the audience, I was seated far enough away from him, and there was one time when it almost seemed as though he was headed straight toward me.”
She continued, “I don’t know if he was, but at least he was headed toward my group of people, and I just walked the other way. So yeah, I didn’t need to have an account encounter. I want him to have a wonderful life and live his life and be happy, but I don’t have to be a part of it.”
Days before the The Golden Bachelor season 2 finale, Gerry, 74, chronicled his relationship with Theresa — including the lead-up to their divorce — in his book, Golden Years: What I’ve Learned from Love, Loss, and Reality TV.
Golden Bachelor’s Theresa Reacts to Gerry Feeling ‘Trapped’ Before Wedding
In the memoir, Gerry claimed he felt “trapped” the night before the former couple’s 2024 wedding. (The exes got engaged on season 1 of The Golden Bachelor before tying the knot in a televised wedding ceremony. Gerry and Theresa announced their divorce months after the wedding.)
While explaining his thought process during an exclusive interview with Us Weekly in October, Gerry shared that he felt like he was “doing the right thing” by going through with their marriage.
“I just didn’t feel overjoyed about it,” Gerry explained in his Us digital cover story. “So much of the book is about how I felt at certain moments, and that’s only a momentary truth … I had second thoughts, but I don’t think [they] were exaggerated from anyone’s normal second thoughts.”
Theresa, meanwhile, wished things would have ended differently.
Theresa Nist Asked Ex-Husband Gerry Turner What’s in His Memoir
“It makes me very sad to think that he felt empty and trapped,” she said in a statement to Us. “I wish he had said something and just ended it. But at least now I understand why he was so hurtful to me so many times. And I will say this. Those in glass houses should not throw stones. I do wish him all the best.”
While sharing her side of the story after the release of Gerry’s book earlier this month, Theresa explained that her ex-husband didn’t share his hesitations with her before saying “I do.” If Gerry had, Theresa admitted during her appearance on the “Dear Shandy” podcast that she would have been “relieved.”
“I have to say that I always said I like to live my life without regrets, but boy I made some mistakes here. I regret getting married so quickly. That shouldn’t have happened,” Theresa shared on the November 4 episode, noting that Gerry did her “no favors” by continuing with their wedding. While sharing a message to Gerry, Theresa added, “You should have called off the wedding.”
