Thomas Tuchel leaves out surprise star from England matchday squad for World Cup qualifier in Serbia

Myles Lewis-Skelly has been dropped for England’s trip to Serbia.

The Arsenal star has been left out of the matchday squad for the World Cup qualifier by Thomas Tuchel.

It comes just three days after he started the Three Lions’ 2-0 win over Andorra at Villa Park.

But Lewis-Skelly will not feature in Belgrade on Tuesday night.

Tuchel is limited to a 23-man matchday squad by UEFA, despite having 24 players available to him during the international break.

As a result, one member of the England camp must be left out entirely for the clash.

On this occasion, it appears set to be the 18-year-old left-back.

Lewis-Skelly played the full 90 minutes on Saturday, winning his fourth cap for the Three Lions.

Jarell Quansah was the man to be omitted for that win over Andorra.

There were some doubts about the fitness of Marc Guehi, but he will be able to feature despite the groin issue.

Tuchel appears to have added extra centre-back cover over the Arsenal left-back.

Lewis-Skelly’s omission leaves Dan Burn, Tino Livramento and Djed Spence as options on that side of the back four.

Burn started in central defence alongside Guehi at the weekend, whilst Livramento played the final 22 minutes at right-back.

Tottenham’s Spence is still awaiting his senior international debut following his maiden call-up this month.

Tuchel had previously handed Lewis-Skelly his own international bow back in March.

The teenager scored in England’s opening World Cup qualifier against Albania before starting once again in the win over Latvia the following week.

He has since won two more caps for the Three Lions, most recently against Andorra.

The victory over the European minnows extended Tuchel’s perfect start to the qualifying campaign.

England sit top of their group with four wins from four without conceding a goal.

However, Serbia could cut their lead in the standings to just two points with a win tonight.

Alternatively, three points for the visitors would put them on the brink of a place at next summer’s finals.

The group winners automatically qualify for the tournament, with the runners-up heading into the play-offs.
