Watch future Texas A&M DB's work out before making his way to campus
Texas A&M's future secondary should be in good shape, barring any movement in the transfer portal, as seniors Will Lee III and Tyreek Chappell, both out of eligibility, are currently the only starting-level cornerbacks set to depart heading into the offseason. Looking ahead, including junior Dezz Ricks, Julian Humphrey, Jordan Shaw, and Bravion Rogers are the names to watch heading into the 2026 spring season.
Ricks and Humphrey, and likely a transfer portal addition, will be the starters next season. At the same time, the nickel spot, which is extremely important to head coach Mike Elko's man-coverage scheme, requires above-average play in the slot. This position struggled mightily during the 2024 season when Tyreek Chappell was injured.
Jordan Shaw, who transferred in from Washington last offseason, looks like the frontrunner to replace Chappell, while incoming freshman defensive back Camren Hamiel, who, like all but one of Texas A&M's 2026 signing class, will arrive in College Station next month, has been putting in the work this winter to earn a spot in the rotation next season.
Hamiel is the No. 1-ranked prospect in Arizona. He is considered the most versatile defensive back in the 2026 cycle, playing with a physical edge and widely regarded as the future starting nickel in Elko and Lyle Hemphill's defense.
Thanks to Texas A&M beat writer Tony Catalina for providing the footage via X. Check out Hamiel's quick footwork and change of direction, which should excite Aggie fans with a glimpse of the future.
Turning the page to 2026, Camren Hamiel looks to be putting in the final touches before arriving at Texas A&M in January as an early enrollee.
The Detroit native spent the past two seasons at Desert Edge and was rated the No. 1 prospect in Arizona.
