Zidane had been linked with the vacant role by several media outlets in Turkey.

However, he is understood to be holding out to replace Didier Deschamps as France manager after the 2026 World Cup.

Deschamps’ current contract is set to expire after the tournament in Canada, Mexico and the USA.

The World Cup winner has been in charge of Les Bleus for 13 years, having been appointed following Euro 2012.

Zidane’s interest in the role comes after reports in December that the national team and a return to Real Madrid were the only jobs he would consider.

The 53-year-old has been away from the dugout since leaving Los Blancos for a second time in 2021.

Across his two spells in charge, he won 11 major trophies including three Champions Leagues and a pair of LaLiga titles.

Zidane will not be adding the Turkish Super Lig to his trophy cabinet anytime soon, though.

Who is replacing Mourinho?

Instead, Italian coach Tedesco is set to be unveiled by Fenerbahce ahead of their return to action this weekend.

They head into the match third in the table and unbeaten after three matches.

However, Mourinho was relieved of his duties due to their failure to qualify for the Champions League.

Fenerbahce missed out on a spot in the league phase after a play-off round defeat to Benfica last month.

Tedesco will return to management after eight months away from the dugout.

His last role saw him take charge of the Belgian national team for just under two years before his departure in January.

During that time, he guided the Red Devils to the round of 16 at last summer’s Euros.

The 39-year-old’s previous club roles include spells at Schalke, Spartak Moscow and RB Leipzig.

His stint with the latter included a German Cup triumph during the 2021/22 season.
